What are some lesser-known facts about Kodaikanal?

 Kodaikanal is a hill station in Dindigul district in Tamil Nadu at an altitude of 2225 M in the Palani hills of Western ghats.

Kodaikanal was established in 1845 to serve as a refuge from the high temperatures and tropical diseases during the summer in the plains. Kodaikanal known as the Princess of Hill Station.

114 species of birds found in Kodaikanal which was recorded 1861 . In 1836 Over 100 plant specimens are also recorded here.

According to 2011 census, Kodaikanal has a population of 36501 with sex ratio of 1004 and with the literacy rate of 79.78%.

Kurinji Andavar Temple which takes its name from the indigenous Kurinji flower that blooms once in 12 years at the location, was built in 1924 and is dedicated to Lord Murugan.the usage of plastic bags is ban due to the pollution caused by them to the fragile ecosystem.

Kodaikanal has several tourist attractions like Kodaikanal lake ,Berijam lake,Pine forests, Green Valley,Vaigai dam,Silver Cascade waterfall etc.
