- Sr NTR was born on 28th May 1923 at Nimmakuru in the erstwhile Madras Presidency.
- He was born to Nandamuri Lakshmaih Chowdary and Nandamuri Venkata Ramamma. He was adopted by his paternal uncle and aunt who were childless.
- He was weak in studies and completed his matriculation on his 3rd attempt.
- He supplied milk to hotels while studying in Vijayawada in 1940s, to supplement his family income.
- NTR worked as a Sub Registrar in the Madras Service Commission in 1947. He was one of seven out of 937 who cleared the exam. However, he quit the job after three weeks to pursue a career in acting.
- He worked as an actor, director, producer, screenwriter and editor in the film industry before foraying into politics.
- His 1951 film Pathala Bhairavi was the only South Indian film screened at the first International Film Festival of India.
- NTR’S directional debut was unplanned. When his Guru, K.V. Reddy, refused to direct Sita Rama Kalyanam as he couldn't visualise NTR playing the role of a demon king, NTR took responsibility for making the film himself, marking his directional debut.
- He wrote screenplays for many of his own successful films and even for other producers, despite having no formal training in screenwriting.
- NTR was famous for playing mythological roles, especially those of Prabhu Sri Ram and Prabhu Sri Krishna. He played the role of Prabhu Sri Krishna for 17 times.
- He never consumed meat or smoked and slept on the floor, eating only fruits while playing mythological roles.
- NTR designed the costumes and accessories for all his mythological roles himself.
- He was highly professional and always followed strict punctuality, arriving at the film sets 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
- NTR was the first Non - Congress Cheif Minister of United Andhra Pradesh. His political party, the Telugu Desam Party, stormed to power within nine months of its formation in January 1983.
- NTR led his Telugu Desam Party to a historic victory in the 1984 general elections by winning 30 out of 42 seats in Andhra Pradesh. This victory made his party the second largest in the Lok Sabha after Congress.
- He played a very crucial role in forming the National Front, a coalition of non - Congress parties that unseated Congress in 1989 and governed India from 1989 to 1991. He served as the Front’s President until his death in 1996.
- NTR'S government was the first in India to grant equal property and inheritance rights to women.
- In 1991, when the INC elected P.V. Narsimha Rao as its party leader- ensuring he would become India's next Prime Minister- NTR extended his support by not fielding any candidate from his party in the Nandyal bypoll.
- NTR died on 18th January 1996 at the age of 72 at his residence at Hyderabad. He died from a cardiac arrest.
