What is the finest performance by Rahul Dravid in international cricket?

When ‘The Wall’ withstood all English troubles-

It was the 4th test of the England tour of India,2011.

England, batting first had piled a 1st innings score of 591 for 6, and had declared after Ian Bell scored a brilliant double ton.

India, in their 2nd innings, lost stalwarts Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman early.

Sachin Tendulkar did show some resilience with 23 from 34 balls.

But he too departed without much work.

But this man, Rahul Sharad Dravid was still holding forte.

Big names like Suresh Raina and MSD departed without making much harm to the English bowling line-up.

But with Amit Mishra and RP Singh by his side, Rahul Dravid scored one of the most memorabpe innings of his life.

A masterclass knock of 146 runs, facing a vigil of 266 balls. When no batsman scored a 50, he made a brilliant hundred.

Take a bow, Rahul Dravid.

This by far remains the best innings played by him, atleast according to me.

Thanks for the A2A,though, Shraddha Pandey, and please do accept my friend request on Facebook. 😊

Edit 1- User-11900569173965993752 mentions that he opened the innings and carried his bat throughout the innings, becoming the 3rd Indian opener after Viru and Gavaskar to do so.

Which is the best performance of Rajesh Khanna?

Rajesh Khanna, first superstar of Bollywood has given back to back hits with great performances which makes it much more difficult to arrive at a conclusion stating his best performance. For me, his best performance will always be Anand.

Anand is not those type of films where he is seen dancing around the trees or a musical where he is shaking leg with a gorgeous leading lady.

A character who is aware that he is going to die after a few months, accepting it and spreading joy in the life of every single person he meets. Rajesh Khanna as Anand is absolutely brilliant.

Dressed in a kurta-pyjama, this talkitive character is not only able to make you laugh and cry but also able to cause anxiety and give you goosebumps.

He is smiling most of the time in the film which shows that he is ready to embrace death. Full credit to the dialogues and direction of Hrishikesh Mukherjee but Rajesh Khanna excels in this humourous yet sentimental, morally strong and emotionally focused role.

He is good in Amar Prem, Khamoshi and Safar where he plays a bit emotional and in Bawarchi where he plays a light role but my favourite is Anand.

Personal opinion, might differ.

What are some flop movies in Bollywood but performances were super hits?

 Khamoshi - The Musical :

Khamoshi truly shows what Sanjay Leela Bhansali is capable of and that is extracting performances from actors and having a great sense of music. He dared to cast Nana Patekar as a deaf and dumb character. An actor who is known for firing dialogues.

Besides this Khamoshi has one of the purest performance by Salman Khan as the bridge between sound and silence. A musical masterpiece which failed miserably at the box-office, later gained a cult status has mindblowing performances by Nana Patekar, Salman Khan, Manisha Koirala, Seema Biswas and great music by Jatin-Lalit.

Silsila : Silsila can be termed as poetry on celluliod. It has a very special casting and the treatment given by Yash Chopra is truly appreciable.

Every character is given equal importance. Amitabh, Jaya Bachchan and Rekha were able to keep their personal issues aside and do justice with the role.

Yash Chopra was a visionary director and Silsila was ahead of its time. Therefore the movie gained a cult status later.

Dil Se: What more you can ask for? Brilliant performances by Shahrukh Khan and Manisha Koirala, bubbly Preity Zinta, Malaika dancing on

the top of a train, cinematography by Santosh Sivan, music by A. R. Rahman, lyrics by Gulzar and all this under the direction of Mani Ratnam. Set in the background of insurgency in Assam, Dil Se is a complete package.

It has all the shades of love like passion, aggression, compassion, attraction, obsession etc. People term it as a flop due to its unusual ending but made with a budget of 11 Crores, it collected some 26 Crores at the box-office. 60 Lakhs units of the album's soundtrack were sold at that time. 2 National and 6 Film Fare Awards.

The film is remembered for remarkable performances by the cast, great music and technical excellence. Really a Masterpiece.

Jaagte Raho:

Raj Kapoor did not direct Jaagte Raho but he delivered a memorable performance onscreen. A humble villager comes to city in search for a better life, enters a building to quench his thirst, is assumed to be a thief and gets trapped in the web of middle - class greed and corruption.

Released in 1956, you can still relate with the movie even after more than seven decades. In today's fast world you might find the film a bit lengthy but it is a must watch.

The silence of Raj Kapoor throughout the movie and his outburst in the pre - climax depicts the deep message that he wants to give. Finally Nargis in a cameo quenching his thirst of wisdom. Unfortunately it was a commercial failure in India but in 1965 in Soviet Union (USSR) it earned around 4.44 Crores due to the popularity of Raj Kapoor.

One more example of a visionary concept with good performance yet box-office failure.

I wouldn’t rate many of these as the best performances of this time period, but they were acts that either shook, blissed, or thrilled me with their poignance.

How can you judge an actor's performance in a film?

Now take this scene from the ROOM

The actor Tommy Wiseau is pretty out of form and his body language and Dialogue delivery is pretty mundane which results in a very badly acted and a very unintentionally funny scene.

ON THE FLIP SIDE

Take an actor like Robert De Niro from Taxi Driver.

De Niro played the role with such conviction that you can actually relate to the character of Travis Brickle and you can feel for the internal conflicts faced by the character and his overview and ideologies

It is bad conviction which makes Tommy Wiseau's Performance a pretty bad one and it is the same conviction in a more good form which makes De Niro's role a masterpiece in Cinema History.

Good Conviction leads to two more things which are important which are

BELIEVABILITY

AND

RELATABILITY

So this is why I believe that conviction is pretty important.

3. Versatility: A good actor should be able to take and play as many different and unique roles as possible to maintain variety and to be versatile.

Some versatile actors are as follows :

And many More.

4. Character design: i personally feel that it is the character design which decides whether an actor needs to perform subtly or expressively.

Now take Rajinikanth's Thalapathi for example

The role of Surya was played pretty subtly and as much natural as possible. There was not much dialogues and expressions and yet the character worked out as that was the design thought by ace Filmmaker Mani Ratnam.

Now think how it would have been if the same kind of subtlety was there in a movie like Muthu or Annamalai where the character is expected to be expressive.

It wouldn't have worked that much and it would have flopped big time.

Hence the actors need to understand the ethos of their character and act according to it to give a splendid performance like no other.

CONCLUSION

These are some of my criteria of how to judge an actors performance. I personally believe that both expressive and Natural acting are pretty good and it is the character design like I said earlier which decides whether a character needs to be acted subtley or expressively.

As far as my concern when an actor acts I need to feel his performance to be relatable and I need to see the kind of conviction with which he acts the role to perfection so that I can get invested. An actors role should neither be overpowered and neither should it be undercooked

There should be a perfect and optimum balance to give a solid and memorable performance.
