They include birds’ and animals' languages also.
We come accross in puranas, Kings or travellors listening to birds and animals and used to be guided by their conversation.
In Ramayan itself, Jatayu waited for Rama and gave some information about Sita.
In olden days, kings used to send their kids to Gurukulas where they used to learn all these languages.
This is the knowledge we lost because of foreign invasions and the local pseudo intellectuals.
So, there is no wonder if Rama asked birds and animals for information about Sita.
In Bhagavatam, Gopikas enquired trees also for information about Krishna before Sacred Rasleela.
Our ancient knowledge is far more advanced.
