How did the Sun and planets form?

Here's the story of how the Solar System formed (in fairy tale form, as that seems to be the only thing some people understand).

Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, there was a cloud of dust and other things out in space.

See the center there? That's where the Sun ended up!

Some parts of the cloud were more dense than others. Gravity now took over. The Sun, planets (including Earth), asteroids, and other things formed under this gravity.

But parts of this new Solar System were unstable. Why, Theia even crashed into the Earth!

Part of it became part of the Earth. The rest became our Moon.

But because the Moon was so close, the tides were huge.

Over the billions of years, the Moon settled to where it is now, and the tides settled down.

And that's the story of the origin of the Sun, Moon, and Earth in fairy tale form. Please pay attention to it; after all, it's a picture book!
