Did anyone from India take revenge on the British Empire after their independence?

When the British left in 1947, the Indians did not follow them across the sea with knives. Killing was between themselves - in the dust of partition. They had taken back their land. Was enough.

Before the end, Udham Singh went to London. He shot the man who ordered the slaughter at Amritsar. But that was in 1940. The war was still on.

The flag. It came down.

But now the empire was a ghost. So, can't kill a ghost.

The men of India built their own ships and mills. They made the strong iron and they grew the wheat. Time passed. Now their wealth is greater than the wealth of the island that once ruled them. They bought the old British steel mills and motorcar factories. They took revenge with the long years. The best revenge is to outlive the man who held the whip.
