Which food do you always eat as soon as you reach Delhi?

 As soon as I reach Delhi, I am going to eat all these things that are shown in the list below :-

  • Mohabbat ka Sharbat, Rooh Afza.

Where :- Nawab Qureshi Watermelon Shakes, Jama Masjid, Delhi.

Every summer beat the heat with the healthier and refreshing glass of mohabbat ka sharbat. The Rooh Afza sharbat is prepared with milk, roohafza syrup and watermelon. A block of ice is added to the container to make the sharbat to drink it cool. The price per glass is Rs.20/- for small and Rs.30/- for large.

  • Chhole Bhature.

Where :- Rama Chole Bhature, Tilak Nagar, Delhi.

Chhole Bhature is famous all over Delhi. There are many other places in Delhi where Chhole Bhature is famous. Some of them are Hari Om Chhole Bhature, Chache Di Hatti, Sita Ram Diwan Chand etc. But the Chhole Bhature that I had at Rama Chhole Bhature was one of the best one in taste. Proper care of cleanliness and hygiene was taken at this place.

  • Aloo Puri and Chhole with Nagori Halwa.

Where :- Shyam Sweets, Chawri Bazar, Old Delhi.

Aloo Puri and Chhole with Nagori Halwa is one of the famous breakfast among delhilites. The Aloo ki Sabji at this place is the best that I ever had.

You can also try Stuffed Matar Kachori with Aloo ki Sabji at this place. It is also very famous and tasty.

  • Dahi wale Golgappe.

Where :- Ashok Chaat Corner, Hauz, Qazi Road, Delhi.

The Dahi wale Golgappe at this place is very tasty. The golgappe are loaded with freshness of yogurt and chutneys. You can also try bhalla papdi chaat, aloo tikki chaat and masala aloo at this place.

  • Samosa Chhola.

Where :- Banke Bihari, Paharganj, Delhi.

The Samosa Chhola at this place is highly recommended The chhole is prepared in tangy and spicy flavor. You will be served Samosa Chhola with green chutney and amchur chutney.

  • Kachori with Aloo ki Sabji.

Where :- Sharmaji Kachori Wale, Kamla Nagar, Delhi

The per plate cost of Kachori with Aloo ki Sabji at this place is Rs.22/- You will get 5 Kachori in a plate. The taste is good.

  • Chhole Kulche.

Where :- Lotan Chhole Kulche, Old Delhi.

Lotan Chhole Kulche is one of the oldest chhole kulche shop in Old Delhi. The shop is 100 years old now (since 1920). In the 100 years, the shop has maintained its best taste of Chhole Kulche. Do try it.

  • Moonglet.

Where :- KB Chaat Corner, Karol Bagh, Delhi.

Delhi famous moonglet at KB Chaat Corner, Karol Bagh is one of the most try dish when you visit Delhi. The moonglet is served with special dates chutney and green chutney which makes moonglet very tasty to eat.

  • Shahi Tukda.

Where :- Cool Point, Jama Masjid, Delhi.

The Cool Point, ultimate sweet shop serves Shahi Tukda in a clay pot. Shahi Tukda is basically a flavored milk which is creamier, thicker and tasty as it reaches the bottom. It is one of the best thing when you are tired of eating the chicken and want a creamier taste for your mouth.

  • Paratha with Aloo ki Sabji.

Where :- Paranthe Wali Gali, Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi.

The Paratha served at this place is served with Aloo ki Sabji, green chutney, pickles, sweet banana chutney. The shop is one of the oldest shop in Chandni Chowk area.

  • Kachori.

Where :- Fateh Chand ki Kachori, Civil Lines, Delhi.

Fateh Chand ki Kachori is the breaking point of all kachoris in Delhi and NCR. Like there is no going above what these people serve at their stall near St. Xavier's School and Ludlow Castle. Absolutely, loved the spicyness and the tangyness that come from the crispy kachori.

  • Fruit Ice Cream.

Where :- Dhani Ram Kulfi Wale, Geeta Colony, Delhi.

The taste of the food ice cream is too good. It is made with combination of different fruits like banana, orange, pomegranate and mixed with ice cream and served cool on a plate. The price per plate is Rs.60/-

  • Bhalle Papdi Chaat.

Where :- Jeet Chaat Bhandar, Ramesh Nagar, Delhi.

The bhalla papdi chaat is loaded with freshness of yogurt, green chutney and banana sweet chutney. The plate is served with some sev and pomegranate to make it look more tastier.

  • Momos.

Where :- Dolma Aunty Momos, Lajpat Nagar, Delhi.

A plate of momo stole away my heart. The plate is served with spicy red chutney and mayonnaise. It was very tasty when I had it for the first time. The price per plate is Rs.50/-

  • Chhole Kulche.

Where :- Amar Ji Chhole Kulche, Ashok Vihar, Delhi.

One of the best chhole kulche in Ashok Vihar, Delhi. The chhole kulche is served with amchur chutney, pickles and salad with green chutney. The per plate cost is Rs.60/-

You can also ask for raita. The small glass cost Rs.20/- and the big glass cost Rs.30/- The raita is very thick. It is made with boondi, coriander leaves, cumin powder and salt.

  • Chur Chur Naan Thali.

Where :- Chawla De Mashoor Chur Chur Naan Thali, Paharganj, New Delhi.

Chawla De Mashoor Chur Chur Naan Thali is one of the oldest shop in New Delhi which serves chur chur naan thali. The thali contains two chur chur naan along with shahi paneer, chhole, raita and salad with green chutney. The chur chur naan thali at this place is much better than Raju Chur Chur Naan Thali.

  • Special Thali.

Where :- Sardar Ji Jeep Wale, Rohini Sec-8, Delhi.

The thali contains 2 tawa roti, matar paneer, kadhi, masala curry, fried rice, ajwain papdi and salad with green chutney. The price per plate is Rs.110/-

  • Rabri Falooda.

  • Sheermal Roti.

Where :- Pakwan, Jama Masjid, Delhi.

Sheermal Roti is a saffron-flavored traditional flatbread from Greater Iran. In India, it is famous in Old Bhopal, Lucknow, Hyderabad and Jama Masjid area in Delhi. Poeple enjoy the authentic taste of it.

Kake Di Hatti is a place where you can find Delhi biggest Naan. The naan is served with dal makhani, butter paneer masala, onion and green chillies.

One of the best place to eat fried chicken in Delhi. The fried chicken is served with onion salad, lemon and green chutney. The Haji Mohammad Hussain Fried Chicken shop is a 45 years old shop in Jama Masjid area in Delhi. The owner of the shop Haji Mohammad Hussain is 76 years old at present. It is said that the taste of fried chicken at this shop is similar to KFC. Do try it, you will love it.

  • Seekh Kebab.

Where :- Abdul Ghani Qureshi Kebabs, Jama Masjid, Delhi.

The Seekh Kebabs at this place will surprise you with the uniqueness and their taste. This shop specializes in crunchy kebabs served with onions, and the best way to eat is just biting the kebabs without rumali roti and experience the juiciness in your mouth.

  • Biryani.

Where :- Bikkgane Biryani, Connaught Palce, New Delhi.

  • Mutton Korma.

Where :- Karim's, Jama Masjid, Delhi.

Karim's at Jama Masjid is one of the oldest hotel for Shahi dishes of Mughals. The place offers best Mutton Korma in Delhi. The gravy of Mutton Korma is made of roughly ground spices (black pepper, cardamom and chilly) which has a wonderful taste and mouthfeel. It is best eaten with tandoori roti and rumali roti.

At Karim's, you can also try Seekh Kebabs, Biryani, Chicken Korma, Mutton Chaap, Mutton Jahangiri, Chicken Jahangiri, Kheer etc.

  • Kheer.

What are some lesser known interesting facts about Delhi?

 Delhi, the present day capital of India is the fourth largest city, by population in the world. It is also the second largest metropolis after Mumbai with a population of over 16.8 million. Delhi is also one of the oldest continually inhabited cities of India. Better referred to as Dilli by the delhiites has everything to offer from job opportunities to endless tourist spots. Here are some of the interesting facts that I have come across:

  • Modern-day Lutyens' Delhi stands over 7 older cities. Chronologically these are - Qila Rai Pithora, Mehrauli, Siri, Tughlaqabad, Firozabad, Shergarhand Shahjahanabad.
  • Originally the walled city of Delhi had fourteen gates and now only 5 are standing. They are: Kashmiri Gate: Pointing North to Kashmir; Ajmeri Gate: Facing Ajmer in Rajasthan; Lahori Gate: Facing Lahore in Pakistan; Delhi Gate: Road to earlier cities of Delhi; Turkman Gate: Named after pious saint Hazrat Shah Turkam.

  • The Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place is one among the five Temples mentioned in Mahabharat. The devotees can also hear the chanting “Sri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram” round the clock. This chanting also has a place in the Guinness book as the longest continuous chant as per the world record.

  • The Nehru Place market in Delhi is considered as the biggest Information Technology market in Asia.

  • Palika Bazaar in Delhi is India's first underground market.

  • The tunnel from GTB Nagar to Qutub Minar in Delhi is said to be the longest tunnel in India. It is surprising to know that it took 6 years to build this tunnel and it is 24 kilometer in length.

  • The mascot of the Delhi Metro is named after Maitree, a girl who was delivered in one of Delhi Metro's trains at 7.28am, 23rd July 2012 near the Khan Market station, a week before her due date on July 30.

  • Khari Baoli in DELHI has Asia's largest wholesale spice market selling all kinds of spices, nuts, herbs and food products like rice and tea.

  • Khan Market has been ranked as the costliest retail location in India. In 2010, it was rated as the world's 21st most expensive retail high street by real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield and is consistently ranked as one of the costliest high-end streets.

  • Connaught Place is the fourth most expensive office destination in the world, according to global property consultant CBRE Group, and the fifth highest priced market in the world according to the 2013 Forbes list.

  • IGI Airport: In 2015, Delhi Airport bagged two awards for The Best Airport in Central Asia/India and Best Airport Staff in Central Asia/India at the prestigious Skytrax World Airport Awards. In 2015, Delhi Airport won the Best Airport award from the Airports Council International within 25-40 million annual passengers category.

  • Asia's largest exhibition ground at Pragati Maidan, largest fruit and vegetable wholesale market at Azadpur are also in Delhi.
