Why did "Indra" lose his importance since early vedic period?

Over a quarter of the 1,028 hymns of the Rigveda mention Indra, making him the most referred to deity than any other - Wikipedia.

According to Ashwa Sukta, Rig Veda 1.163.2.1 Indra is the first to mount the horse. This means that Indra is the first god for converting an idea into an action. This is the reason why there are more verses about Indra in Rig Veda than about any other god.

However, in the Puranic period Indra is cursed by Gautama muni for having an affair with his wife Ahalya.

Indra is again humiliated by Krishna, who lifts Govardhan hill to save people from downpour caused by Indra.

Why did the most important god of Rig Veda became so unimportant in the Puranic period.

Rig Vedic verses are about how to convert an idea into an action using the seven stage muscle tone based thinking. This ensures that the idea becomes compatible with all other ideas / actions of life. In this apporach Indra was the first god.

However, though this is the ideal approach to life, most people found that the idea stagnated at one of the seven stages and very rarely got converted into an action, even if the Hindu had years of practice of Vedic Meditation.

In the Puranic period the fourth, or the central god, Vishnu became the default god, instead of the first god Indra.

Thus, instead of using seven gods in series, a Hindu could use just one god. However, this made it extremely difficult to reach the most peripheral gods Indra and Yama from the central default stage and have control. Thus, Indra was made the god of Heaven and Yama, god of Hell.

Thus, Indra, the default and the most popular Rig Vedic god,

became practically a non entity in the Puranic period.

What is the importance of Vibhuti in Hinduism?

 Vibhuti (sacred ash) is very important in certain traditions of Hinduism. First of all, it is usefully produced from ritually important sources, such as Yagnya fires, a sadhu’s Dhuni fire, burnt cow dung (a holy substance), or even cremated bodies in Aghora or Vamachara Tantra. Vibhuti is called for in certain rituals, and tens of millions of Hindus - mainly Shaivas - apply Vibhuti to certain parts of their body every day while reciting certain mantras. Even more Hindus, probably hundreds of millions, keep at least a small supply of Vibhuti at their home altar among their puja supplies, and may apply it to their Murti (idol of their beloved Ishwara).

The Shiva Mahapurana praises the importance of Vibhuti very highly. It says that each individual particle of ash which clings to the skin when Vibhuti is applied to the forehead is to be considered an individual Shiva Lingam; that Vibhuti purifies and elevates the devotee of Shiva, and makes one’s works more fruitful.

Vibhuti is often provided at Hindu temples for visitors to put on, and packets of Vibhuti are very commonly given to participants after certain Hindu rituals, considered intensely sacred. One common such ritual is the Vibhuti Abhishekam of the Shiva Linga:

ಮಾಘ ಮಾಸ ವಿಶೇಷ ಪೌರಾಣಿಕ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಪೂಜೆ ಮತ್ತು ದಾನದ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಕೋನದಿಂದ ವಿಶೇಷ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಅನೇಕ ಶುಭ ದಿನಾಂಕಗಳು ಈ ತಿಂಗಳಲ್ಲಿವೆ. ಅದೇ ಅನುಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ, ವಸಂತ ಪಂಚಮಿ ಮೊದಲು ಮತ್ತು ನಂತರ ಬರುವ ಅಚಲ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ತಿಥಿಯನ್ನು ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ಬಹಳ ವಿಶೇಷವೆಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಚಲಾ ಸಪ್ತಮಿಯನ್ನು ಕೆಲವು ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ರಥ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ, ಮಾಘ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ಎಂದು ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. 

ಪುರಾಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ರಥ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ

ಮಾಘ ತಿಂಗಳ ಶುಕ್ಲ ಪಕ್ಷದ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ತಿಥಿಯನ್ನು ಅಚಲ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಮಾಘ ತಿಂಗಳ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ಆಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಇದನ್ನು ಮಾಘಿ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ಎಂದೂ ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಪೌರಾಣಿಕ ನಂಬಿಕೆಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಈ ದಿನ ಭಗವಾನ್ ಸೂರ್ಯದೇವನು ತನ್ನ ದೈವಿಕ ಬೆಳಕಿನಿಂದ ಇಡೀ ವಿಶ್ವವನ್ನು ಬೆಳಗಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಈ ದಿನ ಸೂರ್ಯ ದೇವರನ್ನು ಪೂಜಿಸುವುದು ಬಹಳ ಶುಭವೆಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಅಚಲ ಸಪ್ತಮಿಯನ್ನು ರಥ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ, ಭಾನು ಸಪ್ತಮಿ, ಅರ್ಕ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ, ಸೂರ್ಯರಥ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ, ಸಂತಾನ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾಘಿ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ ಹೆಸರುಗಳಿಂದ ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಸಪ್ತಮಿಯನ್ನು ವರ್ಷದ ಸಪ್ತಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮವೆಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಪುರಾಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ತಿಥಿಯ ಸಂಬಂಧವನ್ನು ಸೂರ್ಯದೇವನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ದಿನ, ಪವಿತ್ರ ನದಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ನಾನ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಬಟ್ಟೆಗಳನ್ನು ದಾನ ಮಾಡುವುದು, ಏಳು ಜನ್ಮಗಳ ಪಾಪಗಳನ್ನು ತೊಡೆದುಹಾಕುತ್ತದೆ ಎನ್ನುವ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯಿದೆ. 

ರಥ ಸಪ್ತಮಿಯ ಮಹತ್ವ

ರಥ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ದೇಶದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಬಂಧಿತ ಹಬ್ಬಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಇದನ್ನು ಪೂರ್ಣ ಉತ್ಸಾಹದಿಂದ ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಹಬ್ಬವನ್ನು ಮಾಘ ಜಯಂತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸೂರ್ಯ ಜಯಂತಿ ಎಂದೂ ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ದಿನದಿಂದ, ಭಗವಾನ್ ಸೂರ್ಯನು ಇಡೀ ಜಗತ್ತನ್ನು ಪ್ರಬುದ್ಧಗೊಳಿಸಲು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದನು ಮತ್ತು ಈ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಭಗವಾನ್ ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಜನ್ಮದಿನವೆಂದು ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ನಂಬಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಹಿಂದೂ ಪಂಚಾಂಗದ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಈ ವಿಶೇಷ ಹಬ್ಬವನ್ನು ಮಾಘ ತಿಂಗಳ ಶುಕ್ಲ ಪಕ್ಷದ ಸಪ್ತಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ವರ್ಷ, ಈ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಫೆಬ್ರವರಿ 04, 2025 ರಂದು ಮಂಗಳವಾರ ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು.                ‌

ದಂತಕಥೆಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಗಣಿಕಾ ಎಂಬ ಮಹಿಳೆ ತನ್ನ ಇಡೀ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ದಾನ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಆ ಮಹಿಳೆಯ ಅಂತ್ಯ ಬಂದಾಗ ಅವಳು ವಸಿಷ್ಠ ಮುನಿಯ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಹೋದಳು. ನಾನು ಯಾವತ್ತೂ ಯಾವುದೇ ದಾನ ಮಾಡದಿವಳಲ್ಲ, ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ನಾನು ಹೇಗೆ ವಿಮೋಚನೆ ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂದು ಮಹಿಳೆ ಋಷಿಗೆ ಕೇಳಿದಳು. ಆಗ ಋಷಿಗಳು ಮಾಘ ಮಾಸದ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ದಿನದಂದು ಅಂದರೆ ಅದು ರಥ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ದಿನವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ದಿನದಂದು ದಾನ ಮಾಡುವುದರಿಂದ ಜನ್ಮ ಜನ್ಮಗಳ ಪುಣ್ಯದ ಫಲ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಈ ದಿನ, ಪವಿತ್ರ ನದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ನಾನ ಮಾಡಿದ ನಂತರ, ಸೂರ್ಯ ಭಗವಂತನಿಗೆ ಅರ್ಘ್ಯ ನೀಡಿ ಮತ್ತು ದೀಪ ದಾನ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು ಮತ್ತು ದಿನಕ್ಕೆ ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಉಪ್ಪು ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಆಹಾರವನ್ನು ಸೇವಿಸಬೇಕು. ಇದನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವುದರಿಂದ ಆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯು ಮಹಾನ್‌ ಪುಣ್ಯವನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತಾನೆಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ವಸಿಷ್ಠ ಮುನಿಗಳ ಸಲಹೆಯಂತೇ ಆಕೆ ರಥ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ದಿನದಂದು ದೀಪದಾನ ಮಾಡಿ, ವ್ರತದ ವಿಧಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪಾಲಿಸುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಕೆಲವು ದಿನಗಳ ನಂತರ ಆಕೆ ತನ್ನ ದೇಹವನ್ನು ತ್ಯಜಿಸಿ ಸ್ವರ್ಗದ ರಾಜ ಇಂದ್ರನ ಅಪ್ಸರೆಗಳ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥನಾಗುವ ಭಾಗ್ಯವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದಳು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗಿದೆ.

​ರಥ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ಪೂಜೆ ವಿಧಾನ

ಅಚಲ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಸೂರ್ಯದೇವನ ಜನ್ಮದಿನವಾಗಿ ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ದಿನ ಸೂರ್ಯ ದೇವರನ್ನು ಆರಾಧಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ, ನಾವು ಎಲ್ಲಾ ರೋಗಗಳನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಅನಾರೋಗ್ಯವನ್ನು ನಿವಾರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು. ಭಕ್ತರು ಸೂರ್ಯದೇವನನ್ನು ಪೂಜಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಅನಾರೋಗ್ಯದಿಂದ ಗುಣಮುಖರಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ರಥ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ದಿನದಂದು ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಜನರು ಸ್ನಾನ ಮಾಡಿ ಸೂರ್ಯ ದೇವನಿಗೆ ಅಕ್ಕಿ, ಎಳ್ಳು, ದೂರ್ವಾ, ಶ್ರೀಗಂಧದ ತುಂಡು ಮತ್ತು ಹಣ್ಣು ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿ ಪೂಜಿಸಬೇಕು. ಈ ದಿನ ಸೂರ್ಯದೇವನಿಗೆ ಅರ್ಘ್ಯ ನೀಡುವುದನ್ನು ಸಹ ಬಹಳ ಫಲಪ್ರದವೆಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ನೀವು ಸೂರ್ಯ ದೇವನಿಗೆ ದಿನನಿತ್ಯ ಅರ್ಘ್ಯವನ್ನು ಅರ್ಪಿಸಲು ಬಯಸಿದರೆ ಈ ದಿನದಿಂದ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಬಹುದು.

1. ಧರ್ಮಗ್ರಂಥಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಮಾಘ ಮಾಸದ ಪ್ರತಿದಿನವೂ ಪವಿತ್ರವೆಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ, ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ, ಪೂರ್ಣಿಮಾ ಮತ್ತು ಅಮಾವಾಸ್ಯೆಯ ದಿನಕ್ಕೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ಸ್ಥಾನವಿದೆ.

2. ಭವಿಷ್ಯತ್ ಪುರಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ, ಅಚಲ ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ದಿನದಂದು ಉಪ್ಪು ಸೇವಿಸುವುದನ್ನು ನಿಷೇಧಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಉಪ್ಪು ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಉಪವಾಸ ಮಾಡಿದರೆ, ಈ ಉಪವಾಸವು ಜನ್ಮ ಜನ್ಮಗಳ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನವನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ.
