All were aspiring projects at that time. Sridevi was struggling to give clean hits (after a performance oriented Lamhe & commercially successful Khuda Gawah).
Sridevi signed Chaand Ka Tukda but Chandramukhi released before it. Reason being, Salman giving rush dates to Chandramukhi as his friend Bubby Kent was the producer.
Sridevi signed Chandramukhi as it was a fresh pairing with Salman. It’s also said that she did the film on the request of Salman Khan. Salman was credited with the story idea of Chandramukhi and wanted Sridevi to do the film.
Chand Ka Tukda had its own bag of problems. The film was delayed and Saawan Kumar made Bewafa Se Wafaa and Khalnaika during that time. According to Sridevi, Saawan Kumar did not shoot what was narrated to her. It was a short narration which looked promising. Later due to the delay Saawan was constantly rewriting and changing the script. Sridevi was annoyed but it was too late for her to back out.
Sridevi signed Army as it had a female centric story line. Also, she had an opportunity to work with an emerging talent as Shahrukh was rising to stardom at that time. The film was weak. Shahrukh’s face was used prominently on all posters and his limited special appearance further disappointed the audience.
Meri Biwi Ka Jawab Nahi was initially titled Meri Biwi Wonderful. Sridevi was paired with Akshay Kumar and the film looked promising. However, the film released in 2004 after a delay of almost 10 years. Sridevi even fell on her face and got injured during the shooting.
Besides this, the film faced a lot of production delays and financial problems. Pahlaj Nihlani left the film due to delays and the producer also passed away. Sridevi was already on a long break when the film released. Her last release was Judaai in 1997.
In short, Sridevi was trying to keep going with the bandwagon of the 90s (Salman, Shahrukh, Akshay) but it did not click.
