What do you know about Kader Khan?

Kader Khan , actor-academician, was a multifaceted personality.

Afghan : He was born in Kabul, Afghanistan in 1937.

His paternal family belonged to Kandhar , Afghanistan.

His maternal family belonged to Balochistan.

Indian : His family moved to Kamathipura in Mumbai ,India in 1942.

He had a troubled childhood as his parents divorced.

Soon his mother remarried.

Stepfather : His stepfather maltreated him and his mother.

He made him work and beg outside mosques.

Mother : His mother motivated him to do well in life.

She did odd jobs to fund his education.

Academician : He did his post graduation in civil engineering.

He soon joined an engineering college as a lecturer.

Theatre : Being a booklover , he soon joined dramatic arts.

He participated in many plays during his college days.

Writer : He debuted as a dialogue writer in Jawani Deewani (1972)

But, he earned acclaim as a writer in Roti (1973) starring Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz.

He was paid Rs 1 lakh (a big amount) by its film maker Manmohan Desai.

He went on to write many film scripts and dialogues.

Actor : He debuted in show business with Daag (1973) , a super hit movie.

He soon became a popular character actor (Hero Number 1 ; Hum ; Coolie ; Coolie Number 1 )

He was a popular comedian.

Producer : He also produced Shama (1981) , a flop movie.

Acclaim : He was awarded two Film Fare awards dialogue writer and one as a comedian.

He was also honored with Padma Shri , Indian civilian honor, in 2019.

Oblivion : His family members allege that film industry forgot him in his old age.

Thus, he moved to Toronto, Canada , where he died at the age of 81 in 2018.

Fact : Kader Khan was a well read actor- writer.

What do you know about Kader Khan?

 Kader Khan is a Hindi film actor, comedian and screenwriter.

He was born in Afghanistan in 1938. His father was from Kandahar, Afghanistan and mother from Pishin in British India. Including himself, they are 4 brothers. He has 3 sons.

Kader Khan and his family moved from Afghanistan to Mumbai, where he went to school and college. He graduated with a specialization in civil engineering and for 5 years thereafter taught the same in another college.

While performing in a play named Taash Ke Patey, he was noted by comedian Agha who then suggested actor Dilip Kumar to see the play. Dilip Kumar was impressed and signed him up for his next films, Sagina and Bairaag. During an interview to Rediff, Khan recalled this as the incident that started his film career.

His career as a Hindi film writer began when Narinder Bedi saw the theatre play Khan had written and asked him to co-write the script for Jawani Diwaniwith Inder Raj Anand, for which Khan received 1500 rupees.

From 1971 till 2017, he was actively a part of the film industry, after which he moved to Canada citing health issues.

He has been nominated for 10 films over his extensive career and won 3 awards, 2 for best dialogues and 1 for best comedian.

Kader Khan eventually succumbed to his long-drawn illnesses on 31 December 2018 at the age of 81.
