Do you feel that Shah Rukh Khan's films in the 90s were way better than his recent flicks?

 I think SRK did his best movies in the 2000’s. The 1990s was a phase of the becoming of SRK with lots of hits and misses. 2010s onwards he either didn't try at all or tried too hard with mediocre content.

In the 90s he did Very Good films- Baazigar, Darr, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, DDLJ.

Some popular films which were great then but may not have aged that well today- Kuch Kuch Hota hai, Dil to Pagal hai, Karan Arjun, Pardes, Deewana.

Then he had films which were feel good films not great but good enough to put smile on your face- Raju Ban gaya gentleman, Chamatkar, Yes Boss

And films which remained underrated and didn't receive the appreciation it deserved- Anjaam, Dil Se, Chahhat, Badshah, Maya Memsaab

And then his bad and atrocious films- Dil Aashna hai (bad), King Uncle (loved it as a child but not as an adult plus SRK was barely there), Guddu (Trash), Zamana Deewana (utter trash), O Darling ye hai India (utterly bad film which tried to act way too smart), Trimurti (Big budget trash), Ram Jaane (not bad as a film but SRK was so over the top in the film), English Babu desi mem (very bad), Koyla (not a bad film but too excessive in violence, not an easy watch), Duplicate (could have been fun but a mess). Not including his cameos in Army (which was also bad) and Dushman Duniya ka (very very bad)

In the 2000s he had a much better filmography. His great to very good films will include- Swades, Devdas, Kal Ho na Ho, Veer Zaara, Chak De India

His Good to decent films without the same recall value include- Kabhi Khushi kabhi Gam, Mohabbatein, Main Hun Na, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Don (good film would have received much more love without the comparison with the original), Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Chalte Chalte, Om Shanti Om (a really entertaining film except the plot heavily copied from Madhumati especially the climax)

His underrated films will include- Phir bhi Dil hai Hindustani (more relevant in today's condition of journalism), Ashoka and Paheli (also his cameos in Hey Raam, Saathiya and Luck by Chance)

His not so good, bad and atrocious films will include- Josh (the film was quite decent just SRK doesn't suit in gunda type roles), One 2 ka 4 (could have been fun but a mess), Hum Tumhare hai Sanam (SRK was very good, but the film would have been better had it not been delayed for 6 years), Ye Lamhe Judai Ke (a cash grab scheme to take advantage of SRK's stardom)

In 2010s SRK had a decline in his career. In this phase he only had one great to very good film- My Name is Khan.

His Good to decent films will include- Don 2, Raees, Dear Zindagi (I personally liked it)

Most of his films in 2010s were mediocre not bad but also not good- Jab Tak hai Jaan, Chennai Express, Ra.One (graphics were great screenplay was pathetic), Fan (underrated, went overboard in the second half otherwise SRK's best performance in years)

And the bad to utter trash- Happy New Year (what nonsense was that), Dilwale (the same question repeated), Zero (confused film ended up nowhere while trying to be everything), Jab Harry Met Sejal (except great music nothing worked for the film)

In 2020s he had 3 releases and while none of them was great, Jawan was still the better one followed by Pathaan and Dunki. I don't except King to be anything but fan service movie.

So I would prefer the early 2000s SRK

What are some of the not much known controversies of Shah Rukh Khan?

 These are some of his interesting controversies that you may not find online. Based on the information in the film magazines from the 90s.

This is a report about SRK remembering his marriage. Since he was a Muslim and Gauri was a Hindu there was a lot of skepticism about the marriage. But very few people know that a Muslim organisation got so offended of a Hindu Muslim marriage that they staged a morcha outside the house of SRK on the day of his wedding!! even though SRK’s mother was a special executive magistrate who used to organise such inter religious and inter caste marriages on regular basis!!

This report is from 1994 when SRK caused a ruckus in Chicago during a show, over his lost jacket which cost a huge loss to the organisers. So in 1994 SRK along with other actors did a show in Chicago.. SRK performed really well and for his last dance he took off his jacket and put it aside. When the show ended, he couldn't find his jacket and his temper flew out of proportions. Due to his demand for his jacket, the flight and hotel scheduled of the actors were all muddled up and the promoters had to make alternative arrangements for the whole convoy making them lost to the tune of 8 lakhs. That's why the promoters were so furious of SRK they told the media “We wouldn't let SRK enter Chicago”.

This happened during the making of Pardes, which was perhaps the reason why their ambitious project Shikhar never got made and why Ghai and SRK never worked again. SRK was unhappy with the failure of Trimurti which was produced by Ghai. So when Ghai approached him for Pardes the idea was to make a soft film on a lower budget to recoup the losses from Trimurti. SRK was the starting figure of the film and the film needs him to be successful. Shikhar was put in the backburner to offset the losses. SRK realised Ghai was desperate to have him for Pardes. So he demanded a hike in his payment which Ghai didn't agree as SRK films after DDLJ didn't fare that well. But then he relented. Throughout the making of the film SRK threw tantrums leading to a massive showdown between SRK and Ghai in Canada. Eventually Pardes was a major hit despite low promotions and gave both Ghai and SRK their much needed hit. But the professional relations soured so much that Shikhar never got made.

There were rumours that SRK had a fight with Firoz Nadiadwala on the sets of the film Duplicate after SRK put up a drunk show and throw abuses at Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar at Firoz Nadiadwala’s party. After this even Thackerey had to intervene and give him a talk.

So this happened on the muhurat of the film Raftaar (later Sunjay Dutt was replaced from the film and it was renamed Hera Pheri a film that will change the destiny of everyone involved). It started out innocuously enough but soon magnified into a controversy of such huge proportions that even today Shah Rukh Khan does not collaborate with Firoz Nadiadwala. On January 11, 1997, the mahurat of Firoz Nadiadwala’s movie Raftaar was held at the Oberoi Towers in Mumbai. In attendance were the stars of the film, Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar, Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray, Hollywood heavyweight Steven Seagal and other prominent names like Juhi Chawla, Manisha Koirala, Mahesh Bhatt and Robin Bhatt. Needless to say, it was one of the biggest parties in Mumbai at the time and there was tight security. The attendees were frisked with metal detectors to check if someone was carrying a weapon.

WHEN SHAH RUKH KHAN arrived at the venue, he got beeped by the metal detector since he possessed a fully loaded gun. SRK’s trouser pockets were emptied when the security found the gun which the actor claimed he carried for his safety. Allegedly he explained that he had been carrying a gun everywhere he went since he had been receiving death threats from anti-social elements.

When the weapon was discovered, the security personnel began to throw their weight around and demanded an explanation. An irked Shah Rukh allegedly said, “Don’t you know who I am? I am Shah Rukh Khan!” To which the security guys apparently shot back, “So what? Why are you carrying a gun?” The name was of no significance to the security personnel who claimed they were just doing their job. They then demanded the license for the weapon which Shah Rukh failed to produce. This apparently went on for an hour. Finally SRK lost his temper and began to create a scene. He demanded that the hosts, Firoz or Sajid Nadiadwala, come to his rescue. Unfortunately, Firoz was busy with his guests and socialising with Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackarey. An exhausted and terribly annoyed Shah Rukh allegedly exploded, “Who does Firoz Nadiadwala think he is? After all, he’s making a film with a convict (Sanjay Dutt) and a waiter (Akshay Kumar).”

THIS COMMENT DID not go down well with Akshay Kumar or Sanjay Dutt. One of Firoz’s assistants rushed off to report the incident to his boss who then allegedly informed Balashaeb. It was said that the Sena chief sent a polite but firm message to SRK to not create an issue or he would personally see to it that none of his films get released in Maharashtra. Reportedly, SRK yet again retorted with some foul language only to realise his mistake and keep quiet. He also apologised for being so rude. One can’t really blame Shah Rukh for being angry after being pestered by the security but perhaps he should have controlled his temper as the situation worsened after that.

Left with no choice, Shah Rukh personally went down 26 floors of the Oberoi Towers, retrieved his gun license from his car and produced it in front of the security. He then resignedly handed over the gun to the personnel and entered the party. SRK stuck by Juhi Chawla and Manisha Koirala throughout the evening since he had come alone minus Gauri.

BUT THE STORY was far from over. The next day Shah Rukh Khan and Firoz allegedly had a massive showdown. This time, Shah Rukh was shooting for Yash Johar’s Duplicate at Horniman Circle in Mumbai. Firoz was also shooting nearby for his film Kartoos, starring Sanjay Dutt and Manisha Koirala. The only common factor between the two was the director – Mahesh Bhatt who was helming both projects.

Firoz had maintained his calm the previous night but had supposedly not forgotten the incident. An absolutely livid Firoz allegedly confronted Shah Rukh and said, “What do you think of yourself? You ruined my party. You are out to sabotage my film. You embarrassed me in front of all my guests. Meri naak katwaa di…”; and so on. Not one to keep quiet, SRK allegedly flared up and shot back at Firoz. Onlookers said they almost came to blows but Mahesh Bhatt intervened and stopped them.

Later, a celebrity journalist managed to interview Shah Rukh, who had a totally different story to share about the incident. Shah Rukh said, “They had called a security guy who did not look like one. I took out my clip and handed over my gun and asked him to give me a receipt stating that he had my gun and that I could claim it back. The fight was over a receipt that he did not give me and not the license. Normally, I would never carry a gun to a party. But I did so because I had driven alone from Film City.”

When asked if he had called Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar nasty names, the actor plainly denied the occurrence of any such incident. “Why would I call them a convict and a waiter? Jackie, Sanju and Salman are my best friends in the industry. Someone from the party must have put two and two together, getting five instead of four!”

And lastly SRK created a ruckus at the airport and delayed the flight for multiple hours when he couldn't get his designated seats. 5 passengers deplaned as they had a connecting flight which they failed to board because of the delay. And when SRK entered the plane he was met with hostility from the passengers
