 Lord Krishna had many reasons behind stealing butter.

1. The leela of stealing butter teaches us that we should seek refuge in Lord Krishna to attain knowledge from ignorance.

Reason behind stealing butter:

1. In childhood, Lord Krishna loved to steal butter and eat it.
2. Kans had committed many atrocities on the subjects in his kingdom, one of which was that he used to take butter as tax from the people of Braj.
3. Krishna used to steal milk and butter and feed it to his companions to stop all the milk and butter from going to Kans.
4. Krishna broke the milk pots and stopped it from being sent to Kans' palace.
