 The island shown in the film Shaan which was antagonist Shakaal's den (played by Kulbhushan Kharbanda) is Steep Holm, an English Island in the Bristol Channel, in Somerset, England.

Director Ramesh Sippy was very much concerned about Shakaal's well sophisticated den.

A huge set was erected in Filmcity Studio, Mumbai which had a glass and mirror set. The entire cost of the set was more than 8 Lakh Rupees which was a huge amount in the 80's decade.

Moorthy created the shot of the sun breaking through the studio roof by using a pair of ordinary mirrors to get a parallel beam of light. He won the best cinematographer award for this scene which is remembered even today.

Madhumati was the record holder for the most number of Filmfare Awards received by a film for 37 years until the release of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. Madhumati received 9 Filmfare Awards while Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge received 10 Filmfare Awards.
