You might be familiar with this movie.
Yes, it's the newly released movie Sonu ki Titu ki Sweety, which is surprisingly a blockbuster. The movie also acclaimed popularity for its songs, which were composed by none other than “the great” Honey Singh.
The image above is from the song “Chhote Chhote Peg”. Just look at the lyrics-
Pila de deewani main hoon jiski
I’m a bad girl, I like whiskyJab mujhko chadh jaati to
Nashe mein ho jaati main risky
A rough translation - My lover, made me drink whiskey as I am a bad girl, when I get high, I become “risky”.
Ooh. Looks great!!!
Pee gayi bottle khade khade
Scene tera mere sar se parey
Pata hai mujhe tujhe hoga hangover
Tabhi pehle se hi nimbu meri jeb me pade
And if you translate this, it means roughly - you gulped down the entire bottle in minutes, we have no idea what we are upto, I knew you would get a hangover so I carried a lemon before hand (to reduce the concentration).
Will not going to translate the full song, the lyrics follows: CHHOTE CHHOTE PEG LYRICS – Honey Singh | Neha Kakkar | Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety
So I think you got how the song goes on. It basically exhibits how a girl should crave for whiskey, and that makes her “risky”. Unless you drink, you won't have any charm and blah blah blah.
And don't forget to see how the song ends -
What basically worries me, is that when a school goer listens to the song and memorise the lyrics, he/she will subconsciously become concerned about drinking, and specifically a girl, won't it veer her thoughts and she would think drinking is cool, she becomes “risky” after some couple of pegs.
The movie might be a good one, I haven't watched it yet (and hopefully not even think of watching it), but Bollywood songs do have a large impact on the society. Especially school-goers, teenagers who have an easy access to television and I don't believe any Indian teenager is unaware of Bollywood songs. What will they learn from this song?
I can cite you another example. When I was in school, this song was released.
You remember the lyrics-
Chaar bottle vodka, kaam Mera rozka
Naa mujhko koi roke, naa Kisi ne roka
So, the song says that four bottles of vodka are your daily task and no one ever dare to debar you from doing that.
So when this song became immensely popular, I remember some primary school boys, while playing, were singing the song.
Does they even have the idea what are they singing?
So even as a parent, you might supervise the films he watches, but what about the songs? Who will monitor it?
And even if now, when your kid wants to go for movies, which movie are you going to take him/her with? Even the present comedy movies, don't they have erotic songs/dialogues or dances? Are you going to show him/her that?
I am quite lucky to have watched Bollywood movies like Taare Zameen Par, Jajantaram Mamantaram, Chillar Party, Bhootnath, My Friend Ganesha etc when I was a school-goer. When is the last time had Bollywood made a Children movie, in the last five to six years ??
So from these Bollywood movies, even if adults are enjoying, some filthy erotic scenes, songs and dialogues are quenching their thirsts. Even if some critically acclaimed movies are there, they are masterpieces and have a great role in the industry, but they are always not suitable for children.
So this is what Bollywood is doing wrong, you are forgetting the children.
