Which religion does Sara Ali Khan follow?

Sara Ali Khan comes from a multi-faith family—her father, Saif Ali Khan, is Muslim, and her mother, Amrita Singh, is Sikh.

Sara Ali Khan identifies herself as spiritual and embraces a mix of religious traditions rather than strictly following just one:

During her Kashmir Trip in September 2021, She shared photos on her Instagram page showing her visiting a mosque, alongside a Hindu temple, a Sikh gurudwara, and a Christian church, captioning the post with "Sarv Dharm Sambhav" (the equality of all religions).

She has spoken about respecting her Muslim heritage and visiting Islamic sites like Ajmer Sharif, alongside Sikh Gurdwaras like Bangla Sahib.

She frequently visits Hindu temples (such as Kedarnath, Mahakal, and Grishneshwar), wears a Mahadev locket, and participates in Hindu rituals, which has occasionally drawn criticism or religious rulings from some Islamic clerics.

Actor Sara Ali Khan's team submitted a required affidavit to the October 25, 2026 before her visit to the Kedarnath Temple on Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC)

The BKTC requires non-Hindu visitors to submit a written affidavit declaring their faith in Sanatan Dharma before they can offer prayers at Kedarnath and Badrinath. Sara Ali Khan visited the shrine on Sunday, October 25, 2026, joining the regular queue and participating in prayers and aarti.

Following her visit, Uttar Pradesh-based Islamic cleric Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi issued a fatwa against her, stating that worshipping another religion is impermissible under Sharia law.

In a video statement, the Islamic cleric said that worshipping according to another religion was “impermissible and haram under Sharia”. He also called on Sara to seek forgiveness from Allah, urging her to repent “like a guilty person”.
