Why is the lobster immortal?

Recently, the person who had kept him for 20 years decided to release him. Many worried whether the animal, after spending so many years in captivity, could survive in the wild. But according to several experts, given the weight of old Louie , there are few predators that would be able to attack him.

And that's where it gets interesting: it simply doesn't age.

It constantly secretes an enzyme called "telomerase," which allows it to renew its cells ad infinitum. Suddenly, it becomes content to be gross, chaining together seedlings to renew its tissue endlessly, and the more it grows, the more fertile it becomes. So, technically speaking, the lobster isn't immortal because immortal means it can't die, and, as the From Rugy case reminded us, lobsters usually end up on our plates.

The term "eternal" seems more appropriate. Lobsters don't die of old age, but from the whims of life. Like you and me. The only shadow on the board, once you remove stoves, pans, and household accidents: due to the force of spills, it may be that, after a while, their exoskeleton deteriorates. But we've found some old enough to confirm it.
