What is Point Nemo and are there any signs of life there?

Point Nemo is the name of a place in the middle of the Pacific Ocean that is the furthest from any land.

Point Nemo is located at coordinates 48°52.6′S 123°23.6′W in the South Pacific Ocean.

Nearest land point:

1. Ducie Island (part of the Pitcairn Islands, UK).

2. Motunui Island (Polynesia, near New Zealand).

3. Maher Island (Antarctica).

The distance to the nearest land is about 2,688 km!

So if you were there, you'd be closer to the ISS than to any human settlement on Earth.

It's not the ISS that works in office buildings, right?

But the ISS orbits Earth at an altitude of 400 km. So when it passes over Point Nemo, that's the closest human to you.

Because of its remoteness, Point Nemo is used as the final resting place for retired satellites, such as the Mir station. They are dropped near Point Nemo. This is also because the point is free from shipping and aviation routes, making it very safe to drop satellites here.
There are almost no scheduled shipping routes near Point Nemo, except for a few round-the-world sailing competitions.

Point Nemo is also devoid of marine life. You could say the area around here is like a desert in the middle of the ocean. Because it's untouched by any ocean currents that bring nutrients, marine life is sparse here.
