The problem with good hotels in Udaipur is that if you are staying in prime locations, like a lake-view hotel, you would have to compromise on the entrance to the hotel. You might have to walk through narrow alleys to reach your property. Otherwise, you would have to spend a lot for a 5-star property. We stayed at this property called Hide-In Udaipur, which was located in such a prime location - at the intersection of Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake, just adjacent to the Chandpole Bridge, and we didn't have to break the bank to get a room here!
The location is extremely good since every tourist destination was within 10 minutes' walking distance, be it the Jagdish Temple or the City Palace, the Bagore ki Haveli, the Gangaur Ghat, the Ambrai Ghat or the famous restaurants like Khamma Ghani, Ambrai Restaurant and Qalaa. More than the location, the view that this property offers made me book this hotel instantly! They have five categories of rooms; we booked the third category, which is a Deluxe Double Room with Lake View. This was the interior of the room.
The room was quite basic, to be honest, and it didn't have a mini-fridge either. The washroom was okayish; the ceiling fan and the exhaust fan in the washroom made a creaking sound, but everything became secondary when it came to the view that this property offers! We paid roughly 3,800 rupees per night in double occupancy for this room without breakfast, but I would say it was absolutely worth it! And this is one of the very few hotels in the main city that has elevators.
The property also has a rooftop restaurant named Mannat that offers stunning views of the lake. During the weekend, they organise live music during dinner - that can be a little noisy if you are planning to sleep early, but it gets over by 11 PM. They also have an in-house rental cab helpdesk if you need to rent a cab or a bike. The staff at the reception were quite courteous too. We were offered a complimentary check-in even without requesting it almost two hours before their standard check-in time, and we paid 1,000 rupees extra to allow us to check out late by three hours.
Overall, I would say, if you are coming to Udaipur, this has to be the best property that you can stay at! They have higher category rooms that offer better views, and one even has a bathtub inside the bedroom from which you can enjoy the view of the lake! But yes, you would need to adjust a little with the interior of the room, especially the bedsheets, towels and pillow covers, which were a tad bit dirty. In spite of that, I had a lovely time at this property, and the view from the room still has my heart! I just cannot get over it.
