Why did Rakesh Roshan choose to be bald even if he had enough hair?

It’s sure that Rakesh Roshan had hair loss and wore a wig in the early days of his career but according to him, his decision to go bald was intentional.

Rakesh Roshan was struggling as an actor and made his directorial debut with Khudgarz in 1987. He took a religious vow (mannat) for the success of Khudgarz. Believing that it was his last chance to succeed he promised to shave off his hair if the film became a hit. Despite the film’s success, Roshan found himself unable to fulfill his vow.

Meanwhile he completed scripting of his next film, Khoon Bhari Maang and just a day before the muhurat of the film he called the barber home. After hesitating for about an hour he finally got his new bald look.

Since then, he just requires a minute to get his shiny tonsure and his wife Pinky has never had a problem. In fact she was the one who encouraged him to get it done when he was sitting confused in front of the barber.

The bald look became Roshan’s permanent, personal identity and a symbol of his confidence and professional success.

In interviews, Roshan has jokingly dismissed myths about being naturally bald confirming that it was a conscious decision.

And if this is not enough, Rakesh’s brother (Rajesh Roshan) had also shaved off his head as a vow (mannat) at the age of 19. It was a religious vow for the music of his film, “Julie”.
