The Karakoram Highway, connecting Pakistan with western China, is 1,300 kilometers long and the highest paved international road in the world. The altitude is truly impressive. The highest point is the Khunjerab Pass (4,693 m), which is also the highest paved international border crossing in the world. The Karakoram Highway is a joint project of Pakistan and China, and its construction took 20 years. It was opened to tourism in 1986.
