What are the some flop films of Aamir Khan?

The List of Failures of Aamir Khan (not including his films as child actor and his one second appearance in Zabardast where he was an assistant director and could be seen in the crowd in one scene).

Holi (1984)- Made as a student diploma film of Ketan Mehta, the film stars actors from theatre group and FTII. The film barely received a theatrical release but won a National award for best cinematography. Very interestingly, Aamir has been credited as Aamir Hussain and not Aamir Khan in this film. Worth watching film.

Raakh- Critically Acclaimed and 3 National Awards winning film but commercial failure.

Love Love Love- Major flop. Highly anticipated because of the return of Juhi Aamir pair after QSQT but the film failed badly

Tum Mere Ho- Did average business but panned by critics and audience alike and considered one of the worst films of Aamir

Awwal Number - Only film of Aamir with Devanand - big flop.

Isi ka Naam Zindagi- First film of Aamir and Farha naaz. Major failure.

Afsana Pyar Ka- Aamir Khan and Neelam together. Film had some good music like Tip Tip Tip tip barish shuru ho gayi. Film was mediocre though and failed.

Deewana Mujhsa Nahi- Again highly anticipated because of the return of Aamir Madhuri pair after the blockbuster success of Dil. But the film failed to take even a good opening and failed. One song of the film is very popular- “Main Sehra bandh kar aaunga mera waada hai”.

Daulat Ki Jung- adventure drama with Aamir and Juhi. Again a flop

Parampara - Arguably the worst film directed by Yash Chopra and his last film directed outside his banner. Aamir felt cheated about his role which was one of the reasons why he left Yash Chopra’s Darr. Debut film of Saif Ali Khan. Big disappointment.

Jawani Zindabad - another film of Aamir and Farha Naaz- big flop. Based on dowry practice but not very engaging

Andaz Apna Apna- Cult classic- One of the finest comedies of all time but an unfortunate commerical flop because of bad promotions and distribution.

Baazi- Aamir’s first film with Ashutosh Gowarikar as a director. Underperformed at the box office.

Akele Ham Akele Tum- Remake of Oscar winning film Kramer vs Kramer. The only flop of Aamir Mansoor Khan pair after films like QSQT and JJWS. Terrific music and very well acted but still unfortunately underperformed. Worse the film lost the clash with SRK’s Ram Jaane.

Aatank hi Aatank- One among the many rehash of Godfather- First film of Aamir with Rajnikanth and last film of Rajnikanth for about 30 years with an A certificate. Interestingly, Rajnikanth worked again with Aamir in Coolie in 2025 again with an A certificate.

Mann- Terrific music (although all the songs of the film are plagiarised) and return of Aamir Khan with Inder Kumar after the success of Dil and Ishq. But the film was disliked even by Aamir Khan and couldn't recover it's high cost.

1947 Earth- India's entry to Oscars and Aamir Khan's foray into arthouse cinema. Part of Deepak Mehta’s Element Trilogy (after Fire and before Water). But commerically failed.

Mela- Aamir's return with Dharmesh Darshan after the All Time Blockbuster Raja Hindustani. Highly anticipated film. Also the only film to co star Aamir with his brother Faisal Khan. One of the worst film of Aamir Khan and despite a big opening the film failed.

Mangal Pandey- Aamir's comeback after a 4 year hiatus. Mangal Pandey was a big budget historical film which was criticised for its historical inaccuracies and despite taking a record opening and earning a very good 27 crores it failed because of its very high budget.

Dhobhi Ghat - Aamir Khan again in an art film setup, directed by his then wife Kiran Rao. Dhobhi Ghat was critically acclaimed and did below average business. Not purely Aanit Khan’s movie as Pratik Babbar had the lead role.

Thugs of Hindustan- After dominating the box office between 2006–2016, finally Aamir Khan delivered a massive failure with Thugs of Hindustan. After the blockbuster success of Dhoom 3, director Vijay Krishna Acharya and Aamir Khan collaborated on this Pirates of the Caribbean themed film also starring Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina and Fatima Sana. Despite having a record opening of 52 crores the film received highly negative reviews and ended up losing a fortune for YRF.

Laal Singh Chaddha - Another major misfire from Aamir Khan. Remake of Forrest Gump, Aamir Khan overacted like anything in this film and was the single biggest reason for the failure of the film. The failure of this film put him in depression and apart from a small film Sitaare Zameen Par he hasn't worked on a project as an actor as of yet.

Why Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan & Vivek Oberoi denied for the "Hum Tum" movie which was directed by Kunal Kohli?

Hum Tum was a game changer for Saif Ali Khan but Hrithik Roshan was the first choice for the role.

As Hrithik was going through a rough patch with flops like Naa Tum Jaano Naa Hum, Aap Mujhe Ache Lagne Lage and Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon he was a bit skeptical to give it a nod. Though he loved the script, he was not sure whether it will be a right choice.

After Hrithik, it was Aamir Khan who was approached for the same. It was the time when Aamir was going through his divorce with Reena Dutta. He was not in the right frame of mind for a rom-com and did not even hear the script.

Vivek Oberoi who was gaining popularity with Company and Saathiya liked the script. He even alloted dates for the film but cancelled them later demanding some changes in the script. Further, there were some more issues and the makers decided to move on.

Finally, it was Saif Ali Khan who made it. Hum Tum helped Saif to come out of the image of a supporting actor and established him as a solo hero. His performance was appriciated in the film. Hrithik watched the trial of the film and he too felt that Saif was the right choice.

Why did Aamir Khan turn down the movie 'Darr,' and how did Shah Rukh Khan end up with the role?

Aamir Khan was already a huge name a much ,much bigger star than SRK and 4 years his senior

Not a rank newcomer like SRK after Deewana

He already had Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak

Qsqt halter the action hero era of Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra

Which was copied by the likes of Anil Kapoor and Mithun Chakraborty.

Dil which outgrossed Ghayal Sunny Deol who was the biggest superstar of the era

Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahi

&

Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar

Even SRK said he watched Qsqt in college

SRK movies like Raju Bangaya Gentleman

And

Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa

Were Aamir Khan rejects even Juhi Chawla when asked about the newcomer for Raju Bangaya Gentleman was said that he's like Aamir Khan

After the huge flop which was Lamhe Yash Chopra and Aamir Khan worked together in Parampara

Yash Chopra's first movie after Deewar which produced by an outside producer

Deewar by Gulshan Rai

And Parampara by Feroz Nadiadwala

Aamir Khan already a young superstar wanted a join narration with Sunny Deol

He was not okay with the fact that Sunny Deol would beat the shit out of him like he did too SRK in the movie he wanted a equal fight and Juhi Chawla killing his character.

He even said he didn't reject Darr he was removed from it.

According to me Aamir Khan was a conventionally handsome person

Who was considered the future of Bollywood

Came from a very celebrated film family

had the option to reject someone like Yash Chopra

Who was struggling at the time Darr was his first big hit

after Trishul in 1978

Hell Aamir Khan even said no to the likes of Manmohan Desai who was unargulbaly bollywood's biggest filmmaker

Now SRK was in a different place altogether

He came in via TV

Had no film family backing only came to Bollywood to escape the sadness of his mother's death

Wasn't considered a conventionally handsome ,tall , strong bodied action hero like Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar

Neither was considered a good looking romantic hero like Salman Khan

Had just started his career Was doing films like Deewana

Chamatkar

Dil Ashna Hai

With stalwarts like Jeetendra

and Rishi Kapoor etc

Was willing to experiment with an anti hero thriller movie like Baazigar

Had no qualms against playing a stalker villain in the traditional 90s

SRK even said too Guddu Dhanoa his first producer of Deewana if my 6 films don't work I'll go back to Delhi

But like Aamir Khan he also rejected big people like Feroz Khan

Shah Rukh Khan turned down several offers from Feroz Khan to work with him | Filmfare.com
According to the video, the filmmaker wanted to direct Shah Rukh Khan and he voiced his desire on several occasions.

Plus SRK was a huge fan of Yash Chopra

The first movie he ever watched was Joshila directed by Yash Chopra himself

& Readily agreed for Darr

Which created a long lasting partnership between SRK and yrf which till date stands

Hence I hope you understand that both Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan were at different places of there career.
