What are some travel hacks to make long plane rides more enjoyable?

First of all, I always weigh my bag before leaving for the airport. I make sure that my bag’s weight is at least a kilogram less than what's allowed, allowing some margin for any weight mismatch between my machine and the airport’s. That way, I don't have to unpack my suitcase on the dirty airport floor with hundreds of strangers looking at me while I frantically rearrange the bag and throw away valuable clothes!

Then, I always try to visit the airport lounge for a quick meal. If the meal isn't included in my flight, that lounge meal keeps me to remain full, and I don't feel hungry, and otherwise, if the meal is included, I still eat something light so that if there's a delay, I won't feel hungry. That way, I don't have to rely on the expensive airport restaurants if I get hungry. Of course, this is only applicable if you have a credit card that offers complimentary lounge access.

If it's a long flight, I usually pre-book an aisle seat because that gives me some leg space to move my legs a little. Also, I try to board the aircraft sooner so that I get space in the overhead bin to keep my handbag. Otherwise, keeping them below the seat eats away the limited leg space I have, and the journey gets very uncomfortable with stiff legs. It's usually a window seat for shorter flights and an aisle seat for longer ones.

Some people use a neck pillow to get some sleep. I have purchased one, but that never helped me, so I have stopped carrying it. Use it if it helps you, but it doesn't work for me. On the other hand, I keep a lot of movies downloaded on the OTT platforms I use so that I have something to watch during the flight and avoid boredom.

Also, the aircraft cabin can get chilly sometimes. Not every airline will provide you with a blanket! So it's better to wear full-sleeved clothes so that you don't feel cold. And it's important to keep yourself hydrated. So drink water as regularly as you can. I sometimes carry an empty 1-litre bottle of water, which I fill from the water fountain after the security check. Asking for a cup of water every half an hour inside the aircraft may feel a little awkward.

What are some Indian cooking hacks?

Roll lemons before cutting into them; they release so much more juice.

For great hash browns, throw your potatoes in the fridge the night before. The cold environment forces the potatoes to convert their starches to sugar and this promotes significantly better browning the next day.

Put whole ginger in the freezer; it makes it very easy to grate into a fine powder.

Put a piece of damp paper towel under a cutting board so it wont slip.

Heat pan prior to adding ingredients so the whole pan is evenly hot. Don't throw in everything at once to prevent heat from dropping.

A small pad of butter inserted into the center of a burger before cooking. Mmmmmm. Burgerrrr.

Throw onions in the freezer 10 minutes before cutting. No more tears.

Make your own flavoured oils! They add a little extra zing to any dish, and they are SUPER easy! Put either chilli, herbs (oregano, basil, thyme whatever you like) or garlic into a bottle of oil and let them steep for a few weeks. Experiment with the amount of chilli/herb/garlic you put int o make the perfect concentration. Sometimes it's useful to have a mild chilli oil and a super hot one too!

Grow herbs. A lot of them come back year after year and need very little care. Use them fresh!

Coffee pots also work for cooking ramen/maggi noodles. Poor water in top, put noodles in pot, then turn it on and go. Also, mix in the seasoning after the noodles are cooked and strained; much more flavorful.

If you want to put onions in your salad, soak them in ice water for a few minutes. It will remove the pungency and keep the sweetness + crunchiness

If you are making your own iced tea, put a pinch of baking soda in the tea while it's still hot. It cuts down on the bitterness and reduces the need for sugar.

What are the three best life hacks?

Here are some important hacks I've learned throughout my life:

  • Always carry a pen with you, especially when traveling (you know that sometimes you won't have another option).
  • When you see an animal crossing the road, be sure to stop, look, and wait. There will probably be a few more animals following.
  • Use your foot to stop your phone from falling if you drop it (never try this with the Nokia 3310, you could seriously injure yourself).
  • When you get together with your family, discuss common scams and life hacks that you know about but they don't.
  • If a guest or host asks you if you'd like to take some leftover food home, always say yes. It will likely make them very happy.
  • Answer the door wearing a coat. If it's someone you like, you can say you just got home. If it's someone you don't like, you can say you were just leaving.
  • If you're selling something on eBay, offer free shipping and add the shipping cost to the main price.
  • When sending a long string of numbers to someone, break it into groups of three or four digits separated by spaces to make it more readable.
  • If you solve a problem that you yourself posted on a forum, add the solution so that others can use it for the same problem.
  • Don't take other people's business more seriously than they take it themselves.
  • If someone is introducing you to a song you really like, don't talk during the song unless it's about the music itself or something urgent. That song might mean a lot to the other person, and talking in the middle of it shows that you think your ideas are more important than theirs.
  • Pay attention to how your house smells when you return from a trip – it's how it smells to guests all the time, you've just gotten used to it.
  • When offering your condolences to someone who is grieving, focus on the PERSON and avoid talking too much about who they lost.

What psychological tricks and hacks are useful to know?

  1. If someone is trying to make you decide in a hurry, they are probably giving you a bad deal. Walk away.
  2. Sometimes pretending that you are naive gets you more information.
    1. Pretending is helpful many times.
  3. If you want to avoid office politics, say good things about coworkers behind their backs.
  4. Physical contact makes you more likely to say yes to a request.
  5. If you want to make someone feel uncomfortable, look at their forehead when you're talking to them.
  6. When a group of people laugh, they tend to look at the person they like the most.
  7. Nervousness and excitement have the same body reaction, so if you're nervous for a speech, instead convince yourself you're excited. Its proven to give better speeches, too.
  8. Ask for something that seems small, but is related, to what you really want. Then, once they've agreed to the small thing, just work up with slightly larger requests until you've achieved the desired outcome
    1. The agreement hack.
