The Runways that are built on the top of a hill, by levelling it off, to create plain area to make the landing strip, are typically known as ‘table top runways’. Quite a few are there in India.
These runways leave little space for an aircraft, in case of late touchdown and poses problems particularly during bad weather times.
They also pose danger of optical illusion to the landing pilots, making it difficult to estimate the distance from beginning of runway.
