Did Rajesh Khanna ever refuse to dance in a film?

Rajesh Khanna never learned formal dancing.

He disliked dancing and frequently requested directors to modify and remove complex dance steps in almost all his films.

There is no specific film where he outright refused to dance. Throughout his career Khanna and his directors used to mutually adjust with it.

However, Khanna refused to do certain steps in the film Naya Kadam. The song is, “Saaila aaya more mann bhaya”.

It was a K. Raghuvendra Rao movie which featured an energetic soundtrack from Bappi Lahiri which required athletic footwork and rapid movements.

Rajesh Khanna was not at all comfortable and though it is said that he adapted to the fast paced vigorous South Indian style of dancing, the adjustment done can be noticed.

The interludes are dealt with long shots, top down shots, zoom outs etc. Padmini can be seen not dancing to her potential and still Khanna is not able to match with her.

Khanna can be seen clapping, running and forcing himself to dance.

Throughout his career, Khanna relied on his signature facial expressions and romantic charm instead of heavy footwork to carry his songs. Sadly it didn't work much for him in the 80s.
