What’s your favorite movie based on true events?

 1. Schindler's List

because it shows the reality of the Holocaust without filtering or dramatizing it too much, it feels disturbingly real…Also I love that how only one single colored in the whole scene was represented to highlight this girl who's trying to hide…

In the last scene after saving more than 1,100 people, Oskar Schindler breaks down crying and says one of the most heartbreaking lines

2. Society of the Snow

  • More than the movie, the real event completely blew my mind. They literally survived for three months. They had nothing to eat, so they survived by eating the flesh of their fellow passengers who had died. If I were in that situation, I would honestly have given up.

3. 12 years a Slave

It’s a biopic based on the autobiography of Solomon Northup. The movie shows the brutality of slavery in a slow, uncomfortable way that feels real

4. SANJU

(see people have different opinions about whitewashing the character of Sanjay Dutt , Why I liked the movie is because of Ranbir Kapoor's acting ).

I've watched some biopics in India. Not mentioning Cuz people have already mentioned. Also , no biopic is 100% accurate

But I would love To mention DASRATH MANJHI for sure.

Rest MAJOR I have watched. And I haven't watched URI , shershah , So. :)..

True events means not only biopics may be some events too but I've watched rn or I have forgot.

What are some unexpected events in the history of cricket?

A cricketer was banned for 10 years for conceding 92 runs in just 4 balls. Yes, you read that right, conceeded 92 runs in just 4 balls and then banned for 10 years. Let’s know what really happened.

This incident happened with Bangladeshi Cricketer, Sujon Mahmud

It was the Dhaka Second Division League Match and he was playing for Lalmatia Club. In the first innings, they were all out for just 88 runs and the team believed that they had been subject to extremely poor umpiring decisions.

As a protest to poor umpiring, Sujon Mahmud started to deliberately bowl wides and no balls. He bowled a whopping 13 wides which all went for a four and also bowled four no-balls which were all smashed for a boundary. On the four legitimate deliveries, the batsman smashed three fours to bring the total to 92 runs.

So in the four legitimate balls, the opponent easily scored 92 runs and as you can see in this scorecard photo below, Sujon ended with 92 runs conceeded in just 4 balls.

This incident of deliberate bowling wides and no-balls to protest poor umpiring was then investigated and it was considered to be damaging to the image of cricket and hence, Lalmatia club was banned indefinitely from the competition and the coach, captain and the manager were given five-year bans.

At last, the bowler, Sujon Mahmud, was handed a 10-year ban.

What were some historical events during 1947 partition?

The last thing done by Lord Mountbatten as the Viceroy of India was to Promote the wife of the Nawab of Palanpur to the title of “Highness”

This is one of the most interesting events around independence and it happened on the night of freedom just before a few hours of India’s independence.

On 14th August 1947 during the late evening hours Lord Mountbatten was sitting alone in his study realising that he was the viceroy of India for just couple of hours and that all the power he had over 1/5th of humanity would be gone once the clock hits 12am as India would be free with Nehru as the PM.

So he realised he must do something exceptional while he was still one of the most powerful men in the world. So he decided to promote the wife of the Nawab Palanpur Begum Jahanara, to the rank of “Highness”.

The Nawab of Palampur and Mountbatten were great friends even before Mountbatten became the viceroy. In 1945 the Nawab got married to an Australian woman and requested the British govt. to award her the status of “Highness”. But it was denied by the viceroy as the British policy was against Indian maharajas getting married to women of other countries. His wife converted to Islam and the Nawab even requested Mountbatten to intervene and he did intervene but his request was not entertained by the then viceroy.

So the last thing he did as the viceroy was to promote her as “Highness”.

However, life had other plans for her. Her Highness (as she was called) along with her husband had moved to Europe after independence and had suffered huge financial problems. The Nawab died and her highness spent rest of her life teaching english to rich Arab kids in Geneva.

What are some of the lesser known events in Indian History?

Story of Pandavas's Aagyatvas, when Bheem creates bhim kund.

Bhim Kund, which is located in Bajna village, about 70 km from Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh.

It is said about this Kund that in the Mahabharata period, when the Pandavas were on the Aagyatvas and wandering here and there for water, but they got no water anywhere. Then Bhima made this Kund by hitting the ground with his mace (gada) and quenched their thirst. It is said that this Kund of 40-80 meters is like a Mace(Gada) in view.

It seems quite ordinary to see this Kund, but its specialty will surprise you. It is said about this Kund that whenever there is a natural calamity (flood, hurricane, tsunami) occurring in the Asian continent, the water of the Kund automatically increases.

It is also said that , from the local administration to foreign scientists have tried to find the depth of this mysterious pool, but everyone is disappointed.

It is said that once foreign scientists had sent a camera up to 200 meters underwater to find the depth of the pool, but still the depth could not be found. It is also said about this Kund that its water is as pure as that of the Ganges and it never spoils, while the normally stagnant water slowly starts to deteriorate.

Even today, scientists do not have any answer as to what is the depth of the Kund and whenever a catastrophe is coming, why does the water level of this tank rise?

Can you name some of the most miraculous events in aviation history?

The most cool-headed address to passengers on a plane in distress.

This was said by Eric Moody, the captain of a Boeing 747 flying from Kuala Lumpur to Perth on June 24, 1982. All four engines had stalled due to the ash from a volcano that had suddenly erupted.

Eric Moody turned on the loudspeaker:

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. This is the captain speaking. We have a small problem. All four engines on our plane have stalled. We are doing our best to restart them. I hope this is not causing you too much concern."

British Airways Flight 9 was a long-haul service from London Heathrow to Auckland, New Zealand, with scheduled stops in Bombay (now Mumbai), Kuala Lumpur, Perth, and Melbourne. The flight that night was routine—at first.

The aircraft, with registration G-BDXH, departed Kuala Lumpur just before midnight local time. On board were 247 passengers and 16 crew members. Captain Eric Moody was in command, accompanied by First Officer Roger Greaves and Senior Engineer Officer Barry Townley-Freeman.

A strange sight at 37,000 feet

Cruising at 37,000 feet over the Indian Ocean south of Java, the crew noticed an unusual visual phenomenon. The windscreen appeared to be lit by a strange, white, starlike glow. Soon after, passengers observed flashes outside the windows, resembling fireworks.

The engines were eventually restarted. But while the plane was flying through a cloud of volcanic ash, its livery had been erased, and the windshield had become opaque. It was impossible to land using the instruments; they had failed.

Despite this, the plane was able to land by looking through narrow slits in the windshield. None of the 263 people on board were injured.

What are the most interesting but little known historical events?

Many of you would remember this picture (North & South Towers of the World Trade Center, September 11 attacks, 2001).

This interesting and absolutely amazing story is about a person who saved thousands of lives on that day. The man anticipated 9/11 attacks long before the attacks actually took place. The story was shared with us by a faculty member during one of our recent training programs on safety practices.

Bob Scott, the president & COO of Morgan Stanley, while speaking at Harvard Business School, once said the 9/11 attacks were a milestone more than any other for them. (Leadership on 9/11: Morgan Stanley's Challenge). It might intrigue you as to why he was referring to the 9/11 attacks as a milestone. So here is the fact, Morgan Stanley was the largest tenant in the World Trade Center Towers at that time with approximately 2700 employees but they lost just six employees that very day. The person to be thanked for this, was Rick Rescorla.

Rick Rescorla was a former Vietnam War veteran and a retired U.S. Army officer. He was also a private security specialist who eventually became Director of Security at Morgan Stanley at the World Trade Towers. Due to some reasons, Rick always felt that the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center (WTC) were highly prone to terrorist attacks. One of his friends, Daniel Hill, was trained in counter terrorism. In 1990, he invited his friend Hill to visit the World Trade Center to get an assessment of its security. When Rescorla asked Hill how he would attack the building if he were a terrorist, Hill said that he would drive a truck full of explosives in the basement, walk out, and light it off (Rick Rescorla - Wikipedia ). They both submitted reports about it to the authorities but they were ignored. And in 1993 in similar fashion, a truck filled with explosives detonated below the North Tower. (1993 World Trade Center bombing) This was the first attempt by Al-Qaeda to attack the WTC.

After this incident, Rescorla gained more credibility and authority. He wanted the company out of that building because he continued to feel, as did Hill, that the World Trade Center was still prone to terrorist attacks, and that the next attack could involve a plane crashing into one of the towers due to their height. However, the company could not move out of the towers as they had lease agreements, hence Rescorla used to make all employees, including senior executives, practice emergency evacuation drills every three months. He told the employees that they needed to empower themselves through surprise/mock fire drills in order to counter any emergency in the future. Rescorla's strict approach to these drills also put him into conflict with some high-powered executives and employees, but still he kept on insisting for regular drills.

After all that, the day came on 11 September 2001 when the World Trade Center was under attack. And it’s a fact, when any emergency occurs then our mind doesn't work instead our habits help us. In an emergency, we do what we have been doing regularly. So when the attacks unravelled, Morgan Stanley employees were already prepared for evacuation at once as they had been trained for such scenario over the years. Within no time, Rescorla managed to evacuate most employees. After most Morgan Stanley employees were successfully evacuated, someone told him that he too had to evacuate the building; to that he replied that he would evacuate himself out as soon as he makes sure that everyone else was out (Rick Rescorla - Wikipedia). Shortly the South Tower (he was in the South Tower) collapsed, and his remains were never found. He was declared dead after three weeks. Such a HERO! He saved 2700 lives on 11th September 2001 during the attacks. This story underlines the importance of such disaster contingency drills/plans but ironically, in India we don’t take such drills seriously.

Moral: "If you wait for a crisis to begin to lead, its too late."
~ Bob Scott.

P.S This year, the late Rick Rescorla was awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal by U.S. President Donald Trump for his extraordinary sacrifice.
