What are some fun facts about Emraan Hashmi?

 Syed Emraan Anwar Hashmi 24 March 1979) is an Indian actor who appears in Hindi films.

He was born on 24 March 1979 and 42 year old as of 2021.

  • Though his parents didn’t work in cinema, his grandmother Purnima Das Verma was an Indian film actress. She inspired Emraan to work in films.
  • He is the cousin of actresses Alia Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt and actor Rahul Bhatt. How? His grandmother Purnima Das was the sister of mother of film producers Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt. Hence Mahesh and Mukesh are his uncles.
  • EDUCATION : After school, he attended Sydenham College in Mumbai, a commerce college. Hashmi later earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Mumbai. He says that he wasted 5 years in college since he had no interest in economics.
  • He worked as an assistant director for the 2002 horror film Raaz before pursuing a career in acting.
  • Hashmi made his acting debut in 2003, in thriller Footpath. Co-starring alongside Aftab Shivdasani and Bipansha Basu, he played a gangster. His acting was appreciated by critics.
  • He then played the lead role in adult thriller Murder (2004). It was a commercial success and earned 25 crore (5x the budget), one of the highest grossing films of the year.
  • After the success of Murder, Hashmi had established himself as one of the leading actors of Hindi cinema.
  • He is given credit of reviving thriller genre in Bollywood, with roles in several successful thrillers including Zeher (2005), Aashiq Banaya Aapne (2005), Kalyug (2005), Aksar (2006), and Gangster (2006).
  • It was during this time that he was given the tag ‘Serial Kisser’, since most of his movies had kissing scenes.
  • He says that ‘’Serial kisser tag helped me, but was a curse as well’’. Earlier he took it lightly, but then it blew up, the media started talking about it, he was seen as an actor who was kissing all heroines and that overshadowed the film reviews etc.
  • He has been nominated for Filmfare Awards 3 times.
  • Emraan Hashmi and Himesh Reshammiya have collaborated in a lot of superhit songs, In fact, many people thought they were the same person!
  • The Dirty Picture (2011) is Emraan’s highest grossing movie.
  • He was the original choice for playing news reporter in Bajrangi Bhaijaan. But the role was later played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
  • CONTROVERSY- In Koffee with Karan, when Emraan was asked who in Bollywood is plastic, he said Aishwarya Rai. This sparked a controversy, and he later claimed that he said it in a light hearted manner.
  • His first web series Bard of Blood was made on a high budget but unfortunately didn’t get the popularity that was expected.
  • Hashmi married Parveen Shahani in 2006 after a six and a half-year relationship.
  • The couple have a son, Ayaan Hashmi, who was born in 2010. In 2014, Ayaan was diagnosed with cancer and was declared cancer-free in 2019.
  • In 2016, Hashmi launched the auto-biographical book called "Kiss of Life", which was based on his son's journey of cancer.
  • He stars in the song ‘Lut Gaye’, which is the fastest Indian song to hit 1 billion views.
