Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight has seen the film Jerry Maguire and apparently is a fan. Or, if not a fan per se, he is certainly aware of Jerry Maguire’s pop culture impact.
If this seems like insane supposition, hear me out, because I can prove it.
In the scene where Batman interrogates the Joker, the Joker, with more than a touch of melodrama, says “You complete me.”
(The Joker has one strange sense of humor.)
For anyone who didn’t notice, that’s a direct quote from Jerry Maguire.
This would mean in the Christopher Nolan Batman universe Cameron Crowe was cranking out films just as he did in the real world. It would also mean enough people were watching them that quoting them would still be a thing.
As a side note, it would also suggest that Tom Cruise, Renee Zellweger and Cuba Gooding, Jr. are all characters within Nolan’s world.
