What is the most important lesson in life?

The most important lesson of life is that life does not teach any lesson to anyone.

It is foolish to start treating the experiences of your life or someone else’s life as a lesson of life.

Please read this story.

As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages.

It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.

He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away.

“Well,” trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”

This is what happens to people who consider their life experiences as lessons of life. In reality,

  • What did not work for you once, may work for you next time.
  • What worked for you once, may not work for you next time.
  • The strategy that leads you to failure, may make another person successful.
  • The strategy that worked for others, may fail you.

Many people become stupid at the older age when they accumulate so many false lessons of their life.

They keep advising old tricks to the younger generation because it worked for them and they still expect that the same tricks would work for everyone.

They refuse to accept the reality that different things work for different people in different situations.

Please don’t learn any lessons from life.

Understand that the life is ever fresh, ever changing and ever surrounded in deep mystery.

It is our foolishness to formulate it and codify it in words.

It would be wise to ponder over the words of Albert Einstein, “The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.”

The beauty of life lies in its mystery.

Enjoy the mystery of life till you are alive.

Don’t try to convert your life into a compilation of boring lessons.

No philosopher has ever been able to capture life into words.
