Why do some Indians prefer to be barefoot? Is it a cultural tradition or a personal preference?

Indians prefer to be barefoot for various reasons.

Spiritual : Hindus , Jains , Buddhists and Sikhs enter religious places barefoot.

They put their shoes outside religious places.

Footwear is not allowed during religious rituals.

Cultural : In many Hindu households ; shoes are put outside front door of residence.

Home is considered as a sacred abode. Many consider footwear as unclean.

Health : Many practitioners of naturopathy and allopathy walk bare feet.

They believe , walking without footwear energizes foot -source of natural energy.

Symbolic : Some public figures like late MF Hussein (painter) ;Milind Soman (fitness icon) ; Vijay Anthony are known for walking barefoot.

Economic : Sadly, many poor walk barefoot for sheer economic reasons.
