Trevor Hohns Australian cricketer Hohns played only 7 tests in his career taking 17 wickets but had a prolific first class career. He played his last Test the same year, and retired from first-class cricket two years later. Went on to be Australia's national selector - for 10 years the chairman of the committee - during which time Mark Waugh and Ian Healy were shown the door, and Steve Waugh's ODI captaincy was taken away.
Mark Taylor Australian cricketer Mark Taylor Retired aged 35, with 104 Tests and 7525 runs to his name. Is a commentator now. Tendulkar had played the same number of Tests by the time he was 29, and scored 8770 runs in them. For some time he had the highest score by an Australian in Tests in a match (334).
Greg Campbell Australian cricketer Greg Campbell made his international debut the same year as Tendulkar. He could only play 4 tests and 12 ODI’s with 7 wickets in Tests and 18 in ODI's. He is most popularly known as the uncle of Ricky Ponting.
Angus Fraser Angus Fraser Played intermittently in the English team for a decade playing 46 tests and taking 177 wickets. In ODI's he played 42 matches with 47 wickets. He played three Tests and three ODIs against Tendulkar, getting him out bowled once in a losing cause in an ODI at Trent Bridge. He now is a columnist in the Independent and a coach of Middlesex County
Mike Atherton A significant cricketer from England who Retired having played 115 Tests. Mike Atherton has scored more than 7700 runs although he was known as a defensive player with a strike rate of 37. He retired in 2001 and has been a commentator since then. He had a terrific record against India scoring 639 runs in 7 tests. In these same 7 tests Sachin scored 751 runs. In his last innings against India Atherton scored 160 runs his highest against India. Sachin then scored 177 in the same match. However the Man of the Match of this match was Sourav Ganguly (136+3 wickets)
Devon Malcolm Another player from England who belonged to Jamaica. Last played a Test in 1997 and a first-class match in 2003; has written You Guys Are History, and has also appeared on television show The Weakest Link. Malcolm played 40 tests and 10 One days. He was known as one of the fastest bowlers who took 57/9 against South Africa. He took 128 wickets in tests and 16 in ODI.
Alan Iggledsen - Another E glish batsman who succeeded in First class cricket but couldn't do anything in International cricket playing only 3 tests and 4 ODI’S picking up 6 and 2 wickets respectively. He didn't get opptinirws after 94. He was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in 1999, a year after he retired from first-class cricket. Has survived the tumour through medication, and worked as sports master at Sutton Valence school in Kent till his dem*se in 2021.
John Stephenson Played just one Test, but ended his 21-year first-class career in 2006. Is now MCC's head of cricket, and is involved with a futuristic move - the use of the pink ball in cricket.
Salil Ankola- Salil Ankola is known more as an actor than a cricketer. Salil Ankola and Sachin Tendulkar shared the same room when they made their debuts. Sachin said in his book that both of them couldn't sleep a night before their debuts. Played one Test and 20 ODIs before moving to greener pastures, such as Bollywood, music videos and TV. Has acted in five films, and one horror show on TV most probably known for Ssshhh Koi hai and Vikral aur Gabral.
Waqar Younis- one of the highest wicket Taker in international cricket with 789 wickets (373 in tests and 416 in ODI’s. Bloodied Tendulkar on his debut, and had many a duel with him, but retired after the 2003 World Cup (He was the most effective bowler in the match against India when other Pakistani bowlers were very expensive Waqar Younis gave 48 runs and took 2 wickets of Shwwag and Ganguly in two consecutive balls. Waqar has been a bowling coach, has now moved to Australia and is a TV commentator.
Vivek Razdan- Like Sachin Tendulkar Vivek Razdan was also brought to the Indian team without any substantial first class cricket experience based on his two first-class matches. Played only two Tests and three ODIs, retired from first-class cricket in 1993-94, and now commentates on Indian domestic cricket. Vivek Razdan was not as lucky as Sachin and didn't get many opportunities even though he got a 5 wicket hall in test match against Pakistan.
Chris Cairns- He had the potential to become one of the greatest allrounder of world cricket but Regular injuries meant he couldn't play the same volume of cricket as Tendulkar, but his international career did span close to 17 years. Lives in Dubai now, and makes sporadic appearances in promotional or charity matches. Indians remember him for his century in the final of the 2000 Champions Trophy where he led Newzealand to victory in the finals. He has taken 218 wickets in tests and 201 in ODI Apart from scoring around 8000 runs in the international cricket. Unfortunately his career didn't ended on a good note as he was accused of match fixing in the IPL which tainted his legacy badly.
Akram Raza Played nine Tests and 49 ODIs over a period of six years and was one of six players fined by the PCB after the match-fixing episode. His record was not very good (15 wickets in 9 tests and 38 wickets in 49 ODIs) but still played over a decade and later became an umpire. He had been suspended twice for match fixing and then betting.
Dammika Ranatunga- Not many people remember the brother of Arjuna Ranatunga. Even though he is the eldest brother Arjuna Ranatunga was the first of them to make his debut. Dammika Ranatunga only played 2 tests and 4 ODI'S in his career with hardly any notable performance. He played one series each inntests and ODI's. He quit first-class cricket in 1995-96; and then Dammika has spent time as chief executive of Sri Lanka Cricket.
Saeed Anwar - One of the great batsman from Pakistan who held the record of highest individual score in ODI's of 194 for more than a decade. After quitting all cricket in 2002-03, became a maulvi, and is far removed from life as a cricketer. At one point he was neck to neck with Sachin in their batting statistics.
Robin Singh- Even though he made his debut in 1989, he didn't get proper place in team in 1996 becoming one of the rare batsman to play for India despite not born in India. He was primarily an ODI specialist playing 136 One days and only one test. He is also considered one of the best fielders of Indian cricket. He also worked with Sachin as a fielding coach in IPL as part of Mumbai Indians
Mushtaq Ahmed - Mushtaq Ahmed made his debut against Srilanka in 1989 and played 52 tests and 144 ODIs taking 346 wickets in total. At one point he was considered one of the best spinners of Pakistan along with Saqlain Mushtaq. After Test retirement in 2003, he spent years as a cult hero with Sussex, then jeopardised his county career by signing up with ICL. He has since then worked as bowling coach for England and Pakistan.
Steve Rhodes- Steve Rhodes- made his ODI debut in 1989 as a wicketkeeper batsman and in the same year he was replaced by a much better wicketkeeper batsman Alec Steward, due to which he got to play only limited number of matches. Played only 20 international matches, but his 440-match first-class career ended only in 2003. He is now Worcestershire's director of cricket.
Alec Steward -Is the seventh most-capped player in Tests who played 133 test matches and scored more than 8400 runs. He also played 162 ODIs and scored around 4700 runs. Quit playing in 2003. Is on Surrey's coaching staff now.
Robert Haynes- Had an eight-ODI career in which he only took 5 wickets and therefore fizzled out soon. He has finished an eight-year coaching stint with Jamaica. Is one of West Indies' current selectors
Naseer Hussain- The man responsible for the left-arm over-the-wicket theory that worked temporarily against Tendulkar. Has been retired for five years now, and is a respected broadcaster and writer. Naseer Hussain was way more prolific in tests playing in 96 tests out of which he captained in 45 tests. Interestingly Naseerr Hussain is of Indian origin and migrated to England acte rbeing born in Madras.
Sanath Jayasurya - One of the greatest players of all time, he is one of the rare players along with Jack Kallis to feature in both the lists of most runs as well as most wickets in ODI'S with more than 13000 runs and 323 wickets. And who can forget his innings of 189 against India. While Sachin made his debut with tests Jayasurya started off in ODIs that too as lower order batsman with the ability to bowl. But the 1996 world cup made him a star where ended the career of Manoj Prabhakar. Jayasurya started out in Tests only in 1991, and gave them up in 2007 to prolong his limited-overs career. In 2008 both Sachin and Jayasurya played together for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
