What are the names of legendary cricketers, who never scored a century at Lords cricket ground?

I hope you are asking the answer only for the international cricket.

Before giving you the list of the legends, let me introduced to the legend of legends who you already know.

Here comes the man…

Yes, this he is none other than the God of cricket.

  • You will be surprised to know that in test cricket, his scores at Lord’s read – 10, 27, 31, 16, 12, 37, 16, 34, 12 – a total of 195 runs at an average of 21.67.

So, forget about the century, he hasn't even scored a fifty at Lords in tests.

  • And what also can't be denied is that his average against England is 61.42, the highest against any side excluding Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

The fact to know- Sachin has scored a century at the lords but it is not counted in the international cricket.

Way back in 1998, in a match b/w MCC XI and Rest of the world XI, he scored 125 off 118 while opening for ROW XI

Now going toward the other legends,

Next on our list is…

Don't be surprised know the this legendary West Indian in this list

  • Brian Lara’s scores at Lord’s – 6, 54, 6, 5, 11, 44 – A total of 126 runs at a very low average of 22.66 compared to his career average of 52.88.

Okay, the next legend is someone who will also be remembered if you are taking the name of Sachin and Lara.

He is …..

The legendary punter

  • Ponting’s scores at Lord’s – 14, 4, 9, 42, 2, 38, 26, 0 – a total of 135 runs at a below-par average of 16.87 for a special player like Ricky Ponting

Next in the list is….

  • Gavaskar is the greatest Indian test batsman of 20th century but his scores at Lord’s – 4, 53, 49, 5, 42, 59, 48, 24, 34, 22 – Gavaskar Sir scored a total of 376 runs at the home of cricket including 2 half centuries at a mediocre average of 37.6.

Another legend in this list is…

  • Undoubtedly, Kallis is the best all-rounder of his era. scores at Lord’s – 0, 7, 13, 3, 31 – a total of 54 runs at a nightmarish average of 10.8.

Which international cricketer retired at his prime?

There are some crickets I think who retired at their prime

  1. Kumar Sangakkara: He was in tremendous form in world cup 2015 scoring more than 500 runs in 7 matches with 4 consecutive centuries. I guess after his retirement srilankan cricket is yet not able to find his alter

2. Brendon McCullum: World Cup 2015 was surely one of the best for the kiwis and one of the reason was this destructive opener and captain who just changed the approach of the team and completely change how the world sees New-Zealand. He just retired after horrible loss in the finals but o guess he could have played for 2019 world cup. Not only this he is the guy who scored fastest test century in his last game.

3. Ab de Villiers: Well anybody who like cricket knows how the retirement of this player was put of the blue while he was not in the bad form. No one just couldn't believe him retiring and the reason is still not much clear of his retirement.

So, these are the cricketers I think retired at their peak.

What are some lesser known facts about Indian cricketers?

We all would remember the below incident that happened in 2013 during the RCB vs KKR match very well, but….

But, do you know once Gautam Gambhir gave his Man of the Match to Virat Kohli?

That was during the 4th match of 5 ODIs when Sri Lanka toured India in 2009. Sri Lanka posted a huge target of 316 to win after Indian stand-in captain Virender Sehwag lost the toss and was asked to bowl first.

The openers Sehwag and Sachin failed to make a hefty opening partnership and India was stuttering at 23 for 2 wickets in 4 overs. Then, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli steadied the ship by making a huge partnership of 224 runs from just 214 balls. I know you would relate this with WC 2011 final, didn’t you? But here MS Dhoni wasn’t needed to finish the match (and also was not available), as Gautam Gambhir finished the match in style with a boundary.

Virat Kohli got out after a well- deserved maiden century and Gautam Gambhir was unbeaten on 150 from 137 balls.

In the post match ceremony,

Ravi Shastri - “Gautam Gambhir is the man of the match and would receive ₹1 lakh from Sudhir Hasija, chairman of Karbonn mobiles limited”

Gautam Gambhir walks towards the chairman and says “I would like to give it to Virat Kohli”

Ravi Shastri - “Uhh? Ok. Well a gesture here by Gautam Gambhir…..He wants to give this award to Virat Kohli who’s got his first hundred in one day international. So Virat you…he can collect the phone from Sudhir Hasija, he gets the cheque, Karbonn mobile set and the MOM trophy”

If I’m right, this was his second MOM and Virat was lucky to be brought up among such selfless, encouraging cricketers like Gambhir, Sachin, Sehwag, Dhoni, Dravid, etc. We’ve seen many selfless players played/playing for our team, Gautam Gambhir is one such gem of a player. Hope this is one of the lesser known facts about Indian cricketers.

Thank you for reading

What are the best cricket rivalries of your favorite cricketers?

 Start:

What are the best cricket rivalries of your favorite cricketers?

It all began on July 17th, 2014.

During the 2nd test match of the India-England series in 2014, the English bowlers breathed out fire as they removed India's openers for low scores like 24 & 7 respectively. It was then that the young Virat Kohli joined Pujara at the middle, trying to redeem himself after his horrid show in the first test match.

Kohli looked solid as he amassed 25 runs off 34 balls with consecutive fours. He was all set for a big innings…

When of course, the 31-year old big man named James Anderson, came to bowl.

First ball of the 31st over

The ball flew into the safe hands of Matt Prior. Phew! Jimmy gets Kohli! Yet another disappointing run for Kohli as he departs for a mere 25. Jimmy on the other hand, gets his second fish!

In the third test too, Jimmy Anderson removed Kohli when he looked completely settled, standing tall at 39* (74). Jimmy yet again spoiled Kohli's party, as the birthday boy conquered the third test.

In the fourth test, Jimmy got Kohli for 2/2 times.

Courtesy Anderson's heroics, England scripted a historic series win of 3–1 against India, after getting an early setback in the 2nd test.

While it was the rise of Anderson, it was the fall of Kohli. Seeing his horrid numbers throughout the series, one could predict that it was probably the end of Kohli in world cricket.

4 years went by.

Again in 2018, India toured England for a five-match test series.

Well, I guess by such a long time Kohli must have bid farewell to world cricket courtesy his flop show. Right?

Not at all.

Jimmy threw Kohli to a pack of wolves.

But

Kohli came back leading the pack.

Kohli failed, Kohli learnt, Kohli rose back. He achieved immense success through the period of 2015–2016–2017 and now even led Team India.

Kohli's performance throughout the 2018 English tour was way ahead of just amazing. The best test batsman of that time left the English bowlers clueless.

Jimmy Anderson failed to get Kohli out even once in that series!

However, Jimmy had the last laugh as England yet again bossed India on their home soil, and took a comfortable series win of 4–1.

2021 again saw Anderson taking revenge from Kohli. Anderson hunted upon Kohli a number of times.

The two legends were so far rivals by play and sweet by nature. But this 2021 tour even saw Jimmy and Kohli getting engaged in verbal banters.

Jimmy got Kohli, but Kohli got England as India this time didn't let England enjoy yet another win on home soil, and butchered them 2–1 with the 5th test match getting cancelled.

This rivalry

Where the momentum swung like a pendulum

This rivalry

Where the two legends engaged in verbal banters and appreciated each other too

This rivalry

Where two of the greatest were involved

Came to an end in September, 2021.

Sure, fans hype the Kohli-Smith rivalry, Smith-Archer rivalry, a lot. But the Kohli-Jimmy rivalry will forever remain special for me, and all the others. It will be cherished throughout.

As the tale of the two living legends.

What are some lesser known facts about Indian cricketers?

 1. Sachin Tendulkar debuted in 1989, along with 23 other cricketers around the world. Not surprisingly each one of them retired before the little master, however what’s incredible is that the last one to retire was Chris Cairns of New Zealand who retired in 2004, ten years before Sachin Tendulkar eventually retired from international cricket.

2. Mahendra Singh Dhoni has never scored an ODI century outside Asia.

2. Sachin Tendulkar (Total Number of Runs in Test) + Zaheer (Total Number of Wickets in Test) = (Almost) Jacques Kallis’ Test Career.

3. Indian pacer, Ishant Sharma can be deemed responsible for the three maximum scores made ‘against’ India, by a batsman in the 21st century. How? Well, he dropped catches from all of three of them, on scores below 50.

Later on, Alistair Cook went on to make 294 Runs, Michael Clarke made 329 Runs and Brendon McCullum ended up with 302 Runs, in 2011, 2012 and 2014 respectively.

What are some lesser known facts about Indian cricketers?

  1. Rohit Sharma can fluently converse in four languages- English, Hindi, Marathi and Telugu. His maternal place is Vishakapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
  2. Shikhar Dhawan is a massive tattoo freak. Dhawan first got himself inked at the age of 15 (without telling his parents ofcourse!) and and has been inked four times. He’s got ‘Carpe Diem’ on his left arm, a tribal sign on his right arm and on his back is a design which even the man himself can’t describe!
  3. Gautam Gambhir is running a Foundation which silently helps widows of army men, underprivileged children and environmental and social issues.
  4. Virender Sehwag was banned on his debut test match against South Africa in 2001 for over appealing by umpire Mike Denness. Sehwag scored a century on his debut, but was unfortunately banned on debut and couldn’t play the next match.

Edit: Many people are criticizing my answer because of 1st point i.e, Rohit Sharma can fluently converse in four languages .According to you this is not a great thing in India, I Agree, But My friends , earlier I also thought that he can speak only hindi, english and marathi, but later i came to know that he can speak Telugu also. So I added this point.

What do cricketers eat during a lunch break?

Breakfast: Cereals, muesli, fruits, juices, milk, eggs (scrambled, omelette), bread, idli, pasta, sprouts.

Lunch: Usually lunch consists of roasted chicken, lamb, paneer etc. with lots of soups, butter, cheese, fruits and boiled vegetables.

Tea: During tea breaks, players can have tea / coffee. But, if a team is playing in Indian subcontinent during summers, players take energy or sports drinks to keep themselves hydrated. These drinks contain potassium, sodium, fat etc.

Dinner: After match, players take some recovery drinks. Dinner consists of protein rich food like chicken, fish barbecue with salads and soups.

Indian cricketer Nayan Mongia was asked the same about it, he said “Players get a variety of options of what to eat when they return to the dressing room for lunch. What a player eats, depends on his personal preference, and also whether or not he has to take the field in the next session. The batsmen who are going out to bat would generally just have a protein bar or a banana or some other fruit because a stomach filled with food won’t help them on the field. Everything they eat is low on fat and high on carbohydrates.”

What are some lesser known facts about Indian cricketers?

Virender Sehwag is generally never afraid to face a bowler but once the man did not want to take first strike due to superstition

This happened long back around 2004, test series between India and Pakistan.

The series was drawn 1-1 and the decider was in Rawalpindi. Pakistan were bowled out for 224 and Parthiv was told he would open with Sehwag.

The teenager was barely a couple of years old on the international scene and certainly did not want to do so, but the captain Sourav Ganguly had said so and Dada's word was law.

Now Sehwag was in great form with scores of 309 and 90 in the first two Tests. Parthiv begged him to take first strike but Sehwag felt he would get out first ball if he did so was not willing.

After a lot of begging, Parthiv convinced the dashing opener to face the first ball. Wonder of wonders!

Now imagine what happened? Yes, you are right, ace seamer Shoaib Akhtar came steaming in and sent his man to the pavilion!

Patel said he could not believe his eyes and realised he was in great trouble. He even thought that this would end his cricketing career.

Luckily Parthiv battled his demons to make 69 and India piled up 600. They won by an innings and 131 runs inside 4 days to clinch the series 2-1

The victory gave India its first Test series win on Pakistani soil. However, even today, when Patel recalls the moment, he wonders that how a batsman of such stature could buckle under the pressure of something called superstition

What are the secrets that cricketers shared?

 Umesh Yadav:

Born, October 25, 1987, Umesh Kumar Tilak Yadav is an Indian cricketer, who represents Vidarbha in domestic cricket. Yadav got the ticket to the Indian team quite early as he had only two years’ experience in First-Class cricket, when he was selected for the team and made his debut in 2009.

1. His father, was a worker in a coalmine .Umesh has two elder brothers and his father never wanted any of his sons to work in coalmine.

2. Umesh is one of those Indian cricketers, who never took studies seriously. After completing his HSC, he gave up studies but not for cricket. He quit studies simply because he had no interest in studying further.

3. After quitting studies, Yadav’s first aim was to get selected in Indian Army and serve the nation. But he was rejected, as he was destined for something else.

4. After getting rejected from Army, he tried his hands at becoming a police constable but narrowly missed out on that too. In the physical examination, he scored above 90 out of 100 and in the personal exam; he was not selected because of two points. Like other teenage boys, he too had no clue as to what to do further in his life.

5. He also used to play tennis ball cricket. He was a good fast bowler with tennis balls and once he even got a Man of the Series award; a cash prize of somewhere around Rs 10,000. He also tried to get into a college team on the basis of his performance in local tournaments, but didn’t get any chance as he never represented any club.

6. After getting rejected from college, Army and Police, He signed up for Vidarbha Gymkhana. As he did not have spikes, he was forced to play with a pair of shoes that had studs on their soles. He took three wickets for 37 runs in his 10-over spell. Soon his name became quite famous in Vidarbha region and as the word travelled fast, an official was sent from Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) to watch him bowl in a Twenty20 game. Yadav bowled a lot of yorkers in the death and got two-three batsmen bowled.

7. Soon Yadav was picked by VCA and tested in the semi-finals of inter-district three-day tournament in Amravati. The then Vidarbha captain Pritam Gandhe helped him play for Air India in a T20 tournament in Mumbai. Amidst all this, his father wanted him to get a degree in commerce but he couldn’t as he was busy playing.

After returning from Mumbai, Yadav was among the 30 probables for the Vidarbha Ranji squad. It was Gandhe who wanted Yadav in his team at any cost and got him selected him in his final 15.

8. There is an interesting story behind his Ranji Debut. Even after getting selected in the final 15, it was quite difficult for Gandhe to play Umesh as the pitch for the opening match of the 2008-09 season against Madhya Pradesh at Indore was perceived to be slow and only two fast bowlers were supposed to play and of course, Yadav was not one of them as he had no experience of playing in the domestic circuit.

But then Gandhe decided to play him at the expense of a batsman. Yadav repaid his captain’s faith and took four wickets for 72 runs in the first innings of the match. Though Vidarbha lost the match but they had found a new gem in Yadav, who became a First-Class cricketer barely a month after he started playing with the leather balls.

9.Yadav got married in 2013 to a girl named Tanya after a courtship of three years. Tanya is a fashion designer by profession. Both met during an IPL match and she is fond of cricket.
