What can I learn in 10 minutes that will be useful for the rest of my life?

  • We all buy these small plastic bags or packets for milk, buttermilk, curd and other dairy products.
  • And we all usually “khachak” (snip) the tip of the packet with a pair of scissors in bollywood style and draw the milk out..right??
  • You guys must be thinking …How else are we supposed to draw the milk out from the packet...?

Arey ruko thoda, sabar karo... (Have patience… Didn’t you want a 10 minutes hack?)

So last year I learnt this thing that we should never snip off these packets in such a way that it becomes difficult to recycle it.

We can all make a small cut on the edge like this-

and can pour out the stuff inside without wasting even a fraction of plastic that otherwise goes unused.

Edit:

  • It is written on the top left of the packet that it is a 100% recyclable plastic.
  • What I feel is that our job is to not separate the tiny bits as it becomes very difficult to find them once separated. And these bits end up clogging the water bodies or drainage system. Just imagine the number of these small plastic bits that are created if there are millions of daily users and are snipping the tip off.
  • There is a whole process involved once the garbage is dumped. After dumping, segregation of waste is there and then depending upon the waste, further processes are done.
  • The point is if the plastic is recyclable (as mentioned by the company itself) then why waste any of this by throwing away even a small fraction of it that would otherwise remain unused.
