There are several low-budget fantastic Bollywood movies which have no big superstars. They are different from the beaten path that every Bollywood movie follows. Here the list goes:
- Nil Battey Sannata: (IMDb-8.5/10) Story of a 10th standard student, Apeksha who loses interest in her studies as she feels that she can only become maid like her mother who tries hard to get her educated and finally succeeds.
2. Dhanak: (IMDb- 8.1/10) A simple story told simply. It looks at the world from the children’s perspective. Story of orphaned siblings Pari and Chhotu who embark on a journey to meet Shahrukh Khan who can help her brother regaining his eyesight.
3. Masaan: (IMDb-8.1/10) A wonderful story about how a girl deals with the tragedy and the things which follow, how the situation leads him to greed. On the other hand, it tells about how a low-caste boy falls in love with a high-caste girl and how they try to deal with it. It’s a nice combination of good acting, good screenplay and direction.
4. Udaan: (IMDb- 8.2/10) An inspiration movie about a boy, Rohan who is son of an abusive and oppressive father got expelled from his school and returns to home where he has also a step-brother of whom he is unaware. He is forced to work at his father’s factory even though he wants to be a writer.
5. Tahaan - A boy with Grenade: (IMDb-7.2/10) It’s a beautiful joy-ride down a child’s psyche and his perception of the world around him that rotates on the give and take policy. An eight year old boy's pet donkey is taken away by the local money lender in lieu of an unpaid loan. He goes to retrieve it and meets a terrorist who gives him a grenade to commit a terrorist act.
6. Life in a Metro: (IMDb- 7.4/10) An Indian Drama about nine people living in Mumbai each with different issues and problems, whose interesting stories provide a glimpse of lives, loves and heartbreaks of modern day urban life.

7. Gulaal: (IMDb-8.1/10) A political drama film by Anurag Kashyap in which Dilip, a law student , is assaulted and abused by a gang led by Jadhwal. He further gets embroiled in politics in a bid to avenge the humiliation.

8. Black Friday: (IMDb-8.6/10) Black Friday is a film about the investigations following the 1993 serial Bombay bomb blasts, told through the different stories of the people involved --police, conspirators, victims, middlemen.

9. Maqbool:(IMDb-8.2/10) A crime drama film in which Maqbool, the right-hand man of powerful crime boss Abbaji falls in love with Abbaji’s mistress who instigates him to kill the don and become the new leader.

10. A Wednesday: (IMDb-8.3/10) A remarkable thriller film which questions the injustice done to the common man, when innocents meet their end, following bomb blasts.
