Who was the first woman in Bollywood to have a deep voice?

In Bollywood two actresses have a distinctive voice. The first actress in Bollywood to have a deep attractive voice is the veteran actress Rekha. Her voice is little bit husky and distinctive. Not only with her talents or outlooks but also through her pleasant deep voice she attracted the audience.

Many filmmakers also prefered Rekha to dub her voice for various actresses like Sridevi in the 1986 film Aakhri Raasta, in those times Sridevi, being a South Indian actress and as new comer to Bollywood, did not have fluency in Hindi language.

Rekha also dubbed her voice for Neetu Singh for the film YaaranaSmita Patil for the film Waaris due to Smita Patil's’health issues and untimely demise. In the film Sooryavanshi she dubbed for South Indian actresses Soundarya and Jaya Sudha.

After Rekha, actress Rani Mukherjee is also having a deep husky voice. But in the beginning days of her filmy career many thought that due to her husky voice she may not impress the audience but later her voice itself had become a special trait of her.

For her second film Ghulam, dubbing artist Mona Shetty dubbed her voice because the director of the film felt that Rani's voice didn't suit for her character.

But Karan Johar in his film Kuch Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, did a new experiment, he didn't go for dubbing artist to dub Rani's voice and instead used her original voice. Rani's voice attracted the audience and thereafter with her distinguished voice she became popular and got a special identity.
