There are many controversial moments of his career. Some of them are -
1)Beating a journalist - Shahrukh did a movie “Maya Memsaab” in which he did some intimate scenes with Deepa Sahi, wife of film director Ketan Mehta. This is quite normal in Hollywood to appear nude in films either by actors or actresses. And this movie was adaptation of Bollywood movie “Lady chatrerlee’s lovers”. Shahrukh was a newcomer and media took him to task for this. One journalist went overboard and wrote things about him in a tabloid. Shahrukh grabbed his collar and slapped him. There was a police complaint and Shahrukh had to go to police station and was detained for couple of hours before released on bail.
2) Rivalry with Hrithik - Shahrukh had acted in three movies of Hrithik’s father Rakesh Roshan Karan Arjun, King Uncle and Koyla even before Hrithik arrrived on the scene. But once Kaho Na Pyaar Hai (KNPH) was released, Hrithik became an overnight sensation and super Star. It rang a warning Bell for SRK who was reigning superstar that time. Hrithik got all the awards that year and SRK’s films (Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Badshah) were not doing well at that time. Rivalry took bitter form in advertising. Coke ad was done by Hrithik and Pepsi was endorsed by SRK. SRK as made fun of Hrithik look-alike. Roshans took an umbrage to this and it took some time for this controversy to die down. Later they patched up and two acted together in movie “Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum”.
3) Tussle with Amitabh Bachchan - SRK attended an award ceremony in Dubai hosted by Zee telefilms. Amitabh and Amar Singh were also invited. Amar Singh felt that they were not being treated properly by the hosting team. On this, Zee owner Subhash Chandra called event manager Kareem Morani and slapped him. SRK saw this and as he was friend of Kareem Morani, he intervened. He said, “Amar Singh aap Gundagardi kar rahe hain” to which Amar Singh replied that he was not in a mood for dark humour of Shahrukh. This led to Tussle between Shahrukh and Amitabh Bachchan. This was mainly created by Amar Singh. But once it happened they both acted as enemies to the point that Amitabh didn't invite Shahrukh in Abhishek Aishwarya ‘s wedding. Later he did KBC and acted in movie Don. This was supposed to annoy Amitabh. Karan Johar has a hard time as he casted both Amitabh and Shahrukh for his movie “Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna”. Somehow shooting was completed and Karan heaved a sign of relief with the promise that he will never cast them together again. But later Big B and King SRK patched up and now they do ads together.
4) Fight with Salman Khan - On Katrina Kaif’s birthday, Salman and SRK were talking with a group of people. Suddenly, Salman said, “Now we should do some mardon wala kaam” to which Shahrukh with his usual wit replied, “ Jaise tune Aishwarya ke saath kiya tha”. This hit a raw nerve of Salman and he lunged towards Shahrukh. Bodyguards came in between. Finally, Gauri and Katrina had to intervene to take them away. There rivalry continued for years before they patched up with the active involvement of people like congress politician Baba Siddiqui.
5) Wankhede Stadium controversy - Shahrukh went in the dug-out area and started shouting at stadium officials. SRK alleged that they were pushing teenage girls who were friends of his daughter Suhana and Shahrukh reacted for that. There was huge uproar with some officials saying that Shahrukh was drunk and no one is allowed inside the dug-out area. Finally, a compromise was reached and Shahrukh was banned from Wankhede entry for 10 years.
6) Sameer Wankhede controversy - Another Wankhede controversy pertains to other Wankhede which is NCB official Sameer Wankhede. Sameer arrested Shahrukh‘s son Aryan Khan on the charges of drugs possession. SRK even sent text to Sameer Wankhede when Aryan was in jail. Texts were leaked to the media by Sameer Wankhede. SRK maintained dignified silence throughout the ordeal and never spoke to press or public on this issue. Now Aryan is our of jail and all charges were dropped against him.
