What are some unique Odia festivals?

 

These are the unique festivals from my state Odisha.

  • Ratha Yatra: World Famous Ratha Yatra has originated from Odisha and it is the biggest festival Of Odisha. It is also celebrated in other Indian states and outside of India. But you can find a huge crowd here during this festival.
  • Raja: Raja is famous festival of Odisha. Raja is primarily observed for three days and this is the famous festivals among Odia girls.
  • Pana Sakranti or Maha Vishubasankaranti: (The new year of Odia’s): This is the day called as Odias new year and on this day Odias make a famous Pana that is called as Bela pana.
  • Nuakhai; It is one of the famous festival of Western Odisha. It plays a pivotal role in the lives of farmers and the agricultural communities.
  • Kumar Purnima: Odia unmarried girls worship to the Sun and Moon on this puja to get handsome Husband like Kartikeya. They keep fast on this whole day after finsihing the puja they take prasad as food.
  • Kartika Purnima/Rasa Purnima or Baliyatra: Bali Yatra starts on Kartika Purnima and in Cuttack Bali Yatra Field.It is the largest fair of Odisha and it normally continues for a week. You can find all your household chores here and also you can taste different types of delicious food here.
  • Prathamastami: Prathmastami is being celebrated on the name of elder child of home. They wear new dresse on this day and a famous pitha you can find on this day in every Odia houses that is Enduri pitha or Haladi Pitha.
  • Manabas Gurubara: Manbasa is the puja of Laxmi maa and it is being celebrated by Odia married women. And the main attraction of this puja are Jhoti chita.
  • Sabitri Brata: Odia married women keep fast on this day and worship god for their husband’s long life.
  • Khudurukuni: It is observed by Odia unmarried girls in Odisha. This festival has its own rituals. Goddess Mangala is worshiped in this puja and unmarried girls worship for their brother’s safety and happy life.
  • Sitala Sasthi: It is the most famous festival in Sambalpur and it is the marriage ceremony of Lord shiv and Goddess Parvati.
