What popular destination has been ruined by the tourist industry?

Pretty much all of the popular ski resorts.

Colorado is home to several popular ski towns:

  • Breckenridge
  • Vail
  • Aspen
  • Telluride
  • others…

These towns/cities/resorts are world-famous for their views, luxury, and of course, ski slopes.

Aspen in winter

They started to attract tourists in the 1960s for the burgeoning sport of skiing. They rose in popularity over the years until eventually almost all of the cities’ industries catered towards tourism.

That’s not bad, right? Tourists come, and there are lots of businesses to serve them. Right?

Eventually the wealthy, like Hollywood stars and business elites, decided to purchase vacation homes there. Why mix with the rabble when you can have your own home there, near the slopes?

This led to housing shortages as non-residents were buying up homes, which remained vacant most of the year. So more homes and condos were built. But demand outstripped supply, so home prices shot up. In most cases way up.

Property taxes also rose, because they’re based on a home’s worth. And now, many residents of these towns are getting priced out of their homes. Many of these people have lived in these towns for decades, but are being priced out of their own homes because of an insane rise in property values. Some of these people have nothing to do with tourism, and just lived in the towns because of that’s where they grew up or just liked the natural scenery. But now they’re being forced out because of insanely high property taxes.

And many of the people who work in tourism have incredible difficulty finding affordable housing. Housing they need so they can work at the resorts!

Swiss chalet vibes

I get the attraction; these towns are scenic and the skiing is world-class. But now the people who made the towns what they are are being forced out.

Why is Rajinikanth considered one of the simplest men in the Indian film industry despite his fame?

Rajini modelled his entire “SIMPLICITY” on the real life example of Kannada Superstar Rajkumar

Rajini was a huge fan of the Actor in his younger days and once he realized he was becoming popular - he aspired to slowly act like Dr Rajkumar

Rajkumar was a STRICT TEETOLLER who never drank on any occasion. He never smoked. He had faith in YOGA and regularly did Yoga exercises and He was a Devotee of Shri Raghavendra

So much so that he gave up eating Non Vegetarian Food to ensure he could play Raghavendra Swamy on Screen without hurting his devotees

Rajkumar also made a very early decision to COMPLETELY AVOID POLITICS

Unlike most others , he didn't bluff

He was serious and to his last day he refused Rajya Sabha Nominations multiple times and refused to campaign for a single candidate including for a close friend named Ambarish in the late 1990s (Another Popular actor whose wife Sumalatha was very close to Suhasini Maniratnam)

He would GENEROUSLY gift money to any artist or spot boy who was getting married , he would gift Gold Thalis after a shooting to married junior artists and drivers

Rajinikanth initially enjoyed his newfound wealth tremendously

He smoked blissfully

He drank like a fish

He created a Ruckus in Hyderabad that was solved by Rama Prabha (Former Telugu Actress)

Then one day suddenly HE CHANGED

He claimed it was K Balachander who transformed him by forcing him to quit Alcohol and Cigarettes

By 1983/84 - Rajini was different

He had transformed himself almost completely into Rajkumar in habits

I. He quit smoking completely

II. He quit drinking first during an entire shoot and later permanently after 1987

III. He adopted Yoga and began talking of Weird Sanskrit Stuff and Asanas and stuff

IV. He did his own movie on Raghavendra Swamy and became a devout fan of the Saint although until as late as 1981, he was near Atheist

V. He too gave up Non Vegetarian Food while shooting for Sri Raghavendra and later restricted Non Veg only when he was Outside India or to Hotels / Sets / Outside his home

He fully gave up Non Veg in the late 1980s

He too claimed to be COMPLETELY NEUTRAL IN POLITICS , citing that he did not believe Actors should be politicians

As late as 1993 - During a Celebration event , he said Actors should remain Actors in response to Sivaji joking about his own disastrous career as a Politician

He DID THE SAME THING as Rajkumar , gifting money to various people

Yet while Rajkumar did all this quietly, Rajini had a major AGENDA

Rajkumar never talked of his generosity

It was only after he died that everyone spoke of his generosity

A Bit like AJITH KUMAR in a way

Rajinis Generosity ALWAYS got published in some magazine within a week

Rajkumars Simplicity was Felt

The Man actually attended the wedding of a Kanteerava Studio Sweeper who had been his fan for many years , quietly , wearing a wig that nobody could recognize

Rajinikanths Simplicity was PUBLISHED in Magazines

How he would go to Bangalore, sleep in his friends house in Basavanagudi, eat a simple home cooked meal with Old Conductor friends like Putta Raju, Raj Bahadur and some others

Many believed these stories

Yet many things didn't gel

  • His Wife ran an absolutely FOR PROFIT SCHOOL
  • His Generosity was Selective. He once gave a ₹100/- note to an Assistant of 15 years to Balachander who was suffering from heart disease and needed a surgery
  • He quoted absolutely market rates for his marriage hall unlike Vijayakanth who genuinely charged absolutely low rates of ₹4,000/- a day until PREMALATHA took charge after his illness 😁
  • He claimed his family would get NOTHING of his money which was for the TAMIZH MAKKAL but he purchased multiple properties in the name of Latha in different states

Once his Political dreams were finished , his SIMPLICITY STORIES dried up 😁

He became the first tamil actor to buy a Rolls Royce

He purchased Huge Amounts of Gold for his daughter's wedding in 2010 (Soundarya) which his first son in law METICULOUSLY RETURNED TO THE LAST GRAM (Great Guy👍)

He spent insane sums on some Baba in USA

Today Rajini DOESNT EVEN PRETEND

Nobody believes him

They are Entertained by him still and he charges ₹100+ Crore a film

Yet NOBODY BELIEVES IN THE SIMPLICITY STORIES ANYMORE

They all know IT WAS SCRIPTED exclusively for him to build a political career

What are some mind blowing facts about the Kannada film industry?

I read about this English movie called Boyhood which was 12 years in making.

But there is a Kannada movie which was 38 years in making. Surprised!?

Yes!This is about the movie Saavira Mettilu - Thousand steps .

The film was started in 1968. It was released around 2006.

This film was supposed to be one of Puttanna Kanagal's early movies. The original starcast included Jayanthi,Kalyan Kumar, Ashwath,Pandari Bai,Vajramuni etc.

But due to reasons unknown, the film got stalled. This movie was supposed to be the debut of the much celebrated villian Vajramuni. But since this movie was stopped, Vajramuni's debut was Mallammana Pavaada which was again directed by Puttanna.

Vajramuni's debut in Savira Mettilu

This unfinished movie was taken up by the producer D B Basave Gowda. He was very keen to revive this movie. He collaborated with Ravi(K S L Swami) who was also a pupil of Puttanna to finish this film.

But time had passed. Some of the actors had aged while some others had passed away.Yet the producer and the director did not loose the zeal. As many as 17 actors or more - Anu Prabhakar, Ambareesh , Shivaram ,B V Radha , Padma Vasanti,Master Hirannayya,Ramakrishna, Sunderraj,Lakshmidevi, Hema Chaudhary, Jaya, Girija Lokesh, Ashalatha, Mukyamantri Chandru, Doddanna, Govinda Rao were added as part of the new cast. All of them agreed to work without payment as a tribute to the master Puttanna.

A guest appearance by Ambareesh

One very very rare thing about this movie is that the heroine has lived her age on screen. We have observed in many movies ,the actors grey their hair or put on make up to appear old.But in this movie, actress Jayanthi has appeared as both 20 year old lass as well as a 60 year old woman in real.

Young Jayanthi

Older Jayanthi

Not just Jayanthi, Ashwath who played her father in the movie too reprised his role after so many years.

The middle aged Ashwath

The old Ashwath

The film is no way a great movie by it's storyline . It has its share of flaws and faults. But the idea to pay homage to such a great director is indeed appreciable.

What would have happened to the Kannada film industry without Rajkumar? Would it still be as heavily Madras-based as before?

Kannada Film industry would have died long back in 1960’s.

Tamil Kongas, Telugu golties and Mallus wanted to ensure that Kannada film industry should not grow and thrive.Marathigas were also not close with Kannadigas that time period.

Gokak movement was significant in ensuring that kannada language and Kannada cinema should be given prominence and first preference inside Karnataka. Rajkumar was the key man behind it.

However after death of Rajkumar in 2006, now whole film industry has collapsed.

Now at present Kannada film industry is in ICU only few artists like Legend Navarasa Nayaka Jaggesh, Upendra Rao(although he has lost his interest) and few senior Kannada actors are giving some life support to Kannada film industry now.

Since a decade 90 percent of Kannadigas are not interested in Kannada language movies anymore.

Who's the most talented Indian male actor? (Not necessarily from Bollywood)

Navarasa Nayaka Jaggesh is the most talented actor India has produced till now ( from 1990 till now).

You never get bore to see his talent in the movies he starred.

Navarasa Nayaka means Master of 09 emotions. The title is not given to him on purpose, he did hard work to earn this title. He can give multiple expressions with his face.

He can play any kind of role and is very multi-talented with genres like Comedy, tragedy, raw rustic action with supporting roles, protagonist and antagonist roles.

He is an actor+writer+director+sister. A bundle of talent and skills. A rare valuable gem in Indian cinema.

What are the contributions of Telugu cinema to the Indian film industry?

Telugu cinema has contributed a lot to Indian film industry. It has also given outsiders who are not Teluguites a career in the film industry . Let's look at some of its contribution :

  • First Mythological movie

The 1957 movie was the first Mythological movie in Indian cinema and it was a trend setter movie in Indian cinema. It can be termed as a movie which is way ahead of its time.

  • Career for other language people

Actors like Siddharth has got more hits in Telugu cinema than in Tamil cinema. In one of his interviews he tells that wherever he goes he introduces himself as a Telugu actor.

Prakash Raj is known more for his work in Telugu film industry than for his work in Kannada film industry.

Most of the heroines in Telugu film industry in the 21st century are outsiders. Most of the high budget movies in Telugu which are released in multiple languages will feature other language people too.

So overall Telugu film industry has always welcomed outsiders and treated them just like a native.

  • Remakes

The 2002 film Jayam was remade into Tamil and the actor was since then called Jayam Ravi.

Tamil actor Vijay has a lot of remake movies from Telugu:

Ghilli remade from okkadu

Aathi from Athanokkade

Pokkiri from pokkiri

Vaseegara from Nuvvu Naaku Nacchavu

Badri from Thammudu

Hindi film industry in the past 20 years has been making a lot of remakes which are originally made in Telugu:

Salman Khan's

Wanted is a remake of Telugu film Pokiri.

Ready is a remake of Telugu film of the same name. This movie has been remade into other languages too.

Shahid Kapoor's

Kabir Singh is a remake of Telugu film Arjun Reddy. He is also set to make a remake of another Telugu film called jersey.

Akshay Kumar's

Rowdy Rathore is a remake of Telugu film Vikramaarkudu.

Ajay Devgan's

Son of Sardaar is a remake of Telugu film Maryaada Ramana. This movie was remade into 5 languages.

There are many more such movies and this list is huge.

  • Singers

Both SPB and Janaki were singers in other South Indian languages and have sung a lot of songs in those languages too.

and last but not the least is Baahubali which was amongst the highest grossed Indian movies and it disproved the common belief of people that regional languages cannot make it into the highest grossed Indian movies.

So this is an overall glimpse of Telugu cinema though there is a lot more to talk.

Which actress is known as unlucky in the Kollywood industry?

Kollywood present day celebrities, whose first film failed to hit screens; while starting the career.

What are the biggest casting mistakes in Indian Film History?

  • Stupid Khan in Tubelight.

Remove Salman Khan from this movie and this becomes a great movie. The producers forgot that Salman Khan just cannot act which was required in this movie.

  • Akshay Kumar in Jolly LLB 2.

Agree or not Akshay ruined the charisma that Arshad Warsi created in the first film. Well Akshay Kumar has destroyed most of the sequels he worked on.

  • Hrithik Roshan in Super 30.

Okay the movie wasn't that bad, it's just that Hrithik doesn't look much rural, he's a handsome urban hunk. And the main character is from a rural village in India. In this movie Hrithik looks more like a Egyptian God.

  • SRK in Zero.

What really pissed me off about this movie is that they spent so much to make SRK look like a dwarf. They should have instead hired a talented dwarf actor, saved the budget, SRK and Katrina could have done a cameo and the movie would be much better and realistic. It's not a bad movie, it's just that watching SRK forcibly trying hard to make unrealistic things look realistic is just not what this movie required.

  • Shraddha Kapoor in Haseena Parker.

Shraddha Kapoor just cannot play the negative role. Give me a break. She more looks like a candy canny, the next door girl trying to lose her virginity. The Filmmakers tried to make her look ruthless in this movie by just applying soot beneath her eyes. The movie, obviously tanked.
