What's a sequel so bad that you pretend it doesn't exist because it ruins everything about the original?

There is one filmmaker who has the habit of making sequels of his best known films which end up becoming his career’s worst films.

Meet Ram Gopal Verma

He made an iconic film on indian underworld called Satya, still considered one of the best Indian films. And then somehow one fine day two decades later he decided to make a sequel of the film which no one asked and which no one remembers.

Came Satya 2, a film made in Hindi and Telugu which failed both critically and commerically. The film was not even linked to the previous film except for an underworld background. Satya earned 14.34 crores in 1998, won 1 National and 6 Filmfare awards and became a defining film of Indian cinema. Satya 2 earned 2.40 crores, was barely registered and recognised and is forgotten by all.

If that was not enough he also made a sequel of his cult Horror film Bhoot as Bhoot Returns. While Bhoot is considered one of the best horror films which won 3 Filmfare awards and became a major commercial success. Bhoot returns was hated by everyone and was a major critical and commercial disaster. While Bhoot collected 14.5 crores in 2003, Bhoot returns collected 4.57 crores in 2012.

And he also made a sequel of his film Sarkar. While the first part was good (particularly for Amitabh and Kay Kay Menon) and the second part was decent and both connected to each other, why was Sarkaar 3 made is beyond me. Random camera placement, absolute nonsense plot, waste of credible actors, Sarkar 3 was a torture to senses. Sarkar was a Hit, Sarkar Raj was average and Sarkar 3 was a disaster.

Then there are two films which he produced one part and directed the other part. He produced an anthology horror film Darna Mana hai directed by Prawal Raman. In the sequel Darna Zaroori Hai, he directed one of the story of the anthology which is believe was the worst story of the whole franchise. While Darna Mana hai was a unique experiment, Darna Zaroori hai failed so terribly that half of the directors of this anthology never made a Hindi film again.

Similarly RGV directed Phoonk which was a decent success but then he produced Phoonk 2 which failed terribly.

But another sequel he produced that threatened the legacy of the film was Ab Tak Chhapan 2. Ab tak Chhapan was a cult classic film directed by Shimit Amin and produced by RGV. After 12 years he produced a sequel to the film and made another forgettable remake of an unforegttable movie.

Apart from all this he has also ruined many classic movies by remaking this. We all know what a debacle RGV ki Aag was as an insult to the legacy of Sholay.

But he also remade his own film Shiva in 2005 and made a mess of it.

Raktacharita was a good film but it was not as much a sequel as it was a long film released in two parts.
