Imtiaz Ali wanted to make a film about a man who is on the verge of commiting su*c*de. The superstar rejected a depressing script and asked for a happy one. Imtiaz obliged. The superstar produced it. The film was tentatively titled The Ring.
Then they got a beautiful name- Rehnuma. Could have been a beautiful title. But the makers wanted a light hearted title and then they they came up with the worst ever title possible.
Jab Harry Met Sejal
Not only was the title cheesy, it reminded people of When Harry Met Sally. People bashed the makers for their lack of creativity and the curiousity for the film went downhill. It didn’t help that the film was bad and it crashed at the box office. The film wouldn’t have become a hit even with the original title but with Rehnuma atleast people would have come excepting something poetic. With Harry Met Sejal the film was dead on arrival
