When Devi Rukmini was Lord Krishna’s only wife,before he married to his other wives,Lord Krishna went to Jambavant's cave in search of the Syamantak jewel belonging to Satrajit. There he engaged into the fierce battle with Jambavant for 28 days.
One day,Lord Krishna’s soldiers saw blood flowing from the cave and feared the worst,belonging their Lord will never return. When the people of Dwarka heard of this,panic spread and they wept in despair. However, Devi Rukmini refused to accept their words.
Determined, she went straight to the temple of Mata Parvati and feverently prayed,asking the Goddess to protect her Krishna,even it is meant for sacrificing her own life. Mover by her devotion, Mata Gauri,the ever-compassionate mother,appeared before Rukmini. Without uttering a word,she gently applied vermillion (sindoor) across Devi Rukmini's entire forehead.
At that moment, Devi Rukmini understood that her Krishna was safe. Overcome with joy and tears welled up in her eyes as she gratefully thanked the Goddess. From that day onward,Devi Rukmini always adorned her forehead with Sindoor.
