Talluri Rameshwari
Rameshwari was one actreess who made a smashing debut and was expected to go far but just after the success of her debut film, her career came to a standstill that she couldn't recover from.
Rameshwari completed her diploma from FTII in 1975 and was signed by Rajshri Productions for the film Dulhan wahi jo piya man Bhaye dorected by Lekh Tandon and co starring Prem Kishan. With a non star cast and low budget, the film surprised everyone by becoming one of the biggest hits of the year earning 2.25 crores nett and becoming the 7th highest grosser of the year, and also won 2 filmfare awards. Rameshwari was flooded with offers and she was considered the next big thing. She signed films like Aasha, Mera Rakshak and Sunayna. The last film ended her career.
While shooting for Sunayna co starring Naseeruddin Shah, she was supposed to ride a horse, but the horse went out of control and she fell on the ground sustaining serious injury in her eye. The injury was so serious that it took her about a year to fully recover. This cost her seriously. Many plum film offers were passed on to other actors. Aasha, whoch eventually became the biggest hit of her career, had her role cut short. She was supposed to be the second lead but after the accident her scenes were re written and she was reduced to a supporting role and Reena Roy ended up taking all the laurels while Rameshwari felt cheated. By the time she started working again the euphoria around her debut died down and she had to struggle to get work and she was relegated to secondary roles.
Eventually she moved on to regional films and then Television but her potential was never realised because of one freak accident.
